PlayStation celebrates its 30th anniversary in December. It’s good December 3, 1994 that the very first Sony console arrived in Japan, making it possible to write the beginning of the story of this brand which will have revolutionized the Gaming industry.
20 years ago, in 2004, the very first PlayStation Portable of history allowed us to play our favorite games, wherever we wanted. A console sold more than 80 million copies to date and which remains dear in the hearts of many fans. And indeed, if you still have your PSP, this mod could really interest you.
The PSP on the big screen
In 2004, when the PSP was released, the whole point of the console was to be a portable machineallowing us to transcribe the entire PlayStation experience, but a small machine allowing us to take our favorite games and licenses with us. 20 years later, those who still play the PSP do it mainly out of nostalgia. And for the lucky owners of this great machine, this mod could be a way to revive interest in the console.
Indeed, PS Placeable is a risk-free mod for your machine (only for PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 systems) which allows you to play your PSP games, via UMD physical mediadirectly on your television with a DualShock 4 wireless controller (from the PS4), all wrapped in a miniature case that strongly resembles a PlayStation 2.
This isn’t the first solution to playing your PSP on the big screen. However, this is the most practical and authentic solution through the use of UMD support. This PS Placeable mod is the first to support games natively and remotely to play it on a large wireless screen.
The other strength of the mod is that it opens up a lot of possibilities, particularly for people with disabilities who cannot play portable consoles and who need specific controllers. This is now possible with PS Placeable since in theory, it is possible to connect an Xbox adaptive controller to it au PS Placeable.
Be careful though, because everything is not all rosy. Indeed, this mod is relatively expensive since purchasing a PS Placeable will cost you tidy sum of 299 dollars (the PSP being included in this purchase). Another option allows you to obtain the kit as a spare part, to assemble yourself, for 100 dollars. In addition to this, you will need to use a web application to configure the Bluetooth connection of your PS4 controller. Another small negative point is that the mod fails to resolve long-standing scaling issues with PSPs connected to televisions.
