The ecological transition is underway. While Europe has confirmed the death of new thermal cars by 2035, infrastructure is still showing a decline. seriously behind on environmental ambitions of the old continent. This was without counting on the Mulliez group, which has just announced the installation of 5,000 charging stations in 350 car parks of its brands Leroy Merlin, Auchan and Decathlon.
These new refill steles, established under the aegis of a new brand called “The Full“, will be managed by the company Voltalia, another Mulliez sector, which builds and operates power plants using renewable energy. It will thus be possible to recharge your electric car while you are on the go, but not only that: customers of the brands will also be able to benefit from free refills by accumulating loyalty points, and conversely, benefit from reductions on their purchases as they use these new terminals.
A legal obligation
If the Mulliez group acts as a precursor, it is in reality only complying – a little in advance – with its legal obligations. The LOM law (mobility orientation law) which came into force on December 26, 2019, requires each car park in buildings open to the public and accommodating more than twenty spaces, to provide charging stations for electric vehicles.
The group’s brands will therefore offer several charging levels, similar to what the competition offers or aims to offer. Remember that Carrefour has already deployed its Driveco 2021 stations, and that Leclerc has done the same with its “La Borne” network. Lidl and Super U have also made similar arrangements. Even fast-food giant McDonald’s plans to get in on the action.
150,000 terminals in France
With this new fleet of charging stations, France is accelerating the deployment of its electrical infrastructureand is preparing to exceed the 150,000 charging points. Enough to surpass the 2020 objectives set by the Ministries of Ecological Transition and Transport, which at the time aimed to pass the milestone of 100,000 terminals.
Supermarket parking lots recently represented 40% of terminals accessible on French territorythe arrival of this new fleet at Mulliez aims above all to focus on a competitive Price. Provided you have a loyalty card in one of the group’s brands, you will need to count 26 cents per kWh in slow charging, 39 cents in fast charging and 49 cents in ultra-fast charging.
