Penultimate Saturday of the year. But Today No Circula Saturday does not rest. Once again, the specific restrictions for this day arrive today, December 21, 2024. Because although the year is about to come to an end, the polluting emissions present in our atmosphere are not.
Precisely for this reason, to reduce the pollution we breathe, the program devised by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA) once again implements its specific restrictions for this day of the week.
What are we talking about? As you are probably already familiar with it, we remind you that Hoy No Circula is the plan designed to improve air quality where it is applied. This is achieved by reducing the number of cars on the streets.
The restrictions do not apply at all throughout Mexico. In fact, this project extends across the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan of Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozábal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlán Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juárez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- World of Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley
What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?
Taking all this into account, what should we keep in mind with the Hoy No Circula program? This program includes restrictions for some cars. The more polluting the car is, the less it circulates under rotating restrictions.
Thus, taking into account the hologram number, it is decided which cars can circulate each day. In the image above you have more details of who is affected and when. But on Saturdays, there are some specific changes that put us in the following situation:
- Cars that can circulate every Saturday
- Cars that have to rest every Saturday
- Cars that rest every other Saturday
These restrictions apply between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and it must be made clear that it is at night when we can circulate without any type of problem. Thus, we must be clear that there are vehicles that rotate and, therefore, the same cars do not always rest.
Now that we have clarified this, who circulates and who rests? Actually, those who do not have to pay attention to what happens to them are the cars that pollute the least and, also, the least. Let’s explain ourselves.
Cars with hologram 0 and 00 do not have any problems on Saturdays and can circulate freely. Quite the opposite happens to cars with hologram 2. In this case we are talking about the most polluting cars and, therefore, they cannot circulate on any Saturday of the month.
Those in hologram 1 are the ones who have to remain very attentive. In this case, we are on the third Saturday of the month of December (December 21) and, therefore, it is those with hologram 1 and a plate ending in an odd number who have to stay at home. Next week it will be the cars with hologram 1 and a plate ending in an even number that will stay at home.
Of course, let us remember that the restrictions only apply during the aforementioned hours and that there are some exceptions in which the hologram or the license plate number are not taken into account. Thus, cars collected in the following groups will be able to move without restrictions:
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
- Those that offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
If you fail to comply with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (ONE), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and even 2,886.60 pesos.
