DINERS have been split after a server revealed the real meaning behind a slip being left face down.
A huge debate sparked among restaurant-goers when a waitress shared her thoughts on a way people leave tips.
Saydie (@realslimsaydie) recorded herself after one of her tables left the restaurant.
“Anyone else get so scared when the check is face down,” she wrote in her TikTok video.
The server, from Arizona, claimed she knew the real meaning behind customers who left their tip checks turned over on a table.
“People left the tip slip faced down, you know what that means,” Saydie said.
“Let’s see if I am right, I haven’t looked at it yet.”
The TikToker shared that her table left $15 on a meal worth $93.
“Not the worst, not the best,” Saydie said.
Despite her relief in the video, the server revealed what she believed a faced-down slip meant.
“When it’s face down I’m scared it’ll be zero,” she wrote in the video’s comments.
This clip, which received over 2,900 comments, sparked a huge debate about tips.
Some restaurant-goers raged about tip culture and questioned why they needed to leave extra money after paying for their meals.
“It’s your bosses job to pay you. Not mine,” one person wrote.
“As someone who works in healthcare complaining about a tip is insane to me,” another TikToker wrote.
“You just can’t win with servers that’s a generous tip!” a third TikToker wrote.
Saydie responded to this and defended her take.
“Never said the tip was bad, I was saying I was expecting worse,” the TikToker said.
Other commenters supported Saydie’s reaction to a 16% tip.
“These comments are really surprising to me. I thought 20% was the “minimum,”” one person wrote.
“Man I’m over here tipping 100 on 70 of the service is good,” another TikToker said.
