CES 2025 has been the setting chosen by McAfee to present Scam Detectora AI powered tool which has as its mission Protect against text, audio and video scam attempts. It does this proactively, and thanks to AI it is able to detect suspicious texts, fake emails and video deepfakes, even if they look very real.
The tool uses Artificial Intelligence technology, McAfee Smart AI, which is integrated to proactively analyze text, sound and video elements, and to alert and label email messages that it considers suspicious. Scam Detector takes just a few seconds to do.
Its text scam detector, Email Scam Detector, is responsible for monitoring email to detect suspicious messages and labeling them before the recipient even has time to open them. It also explains why you consider a message to be dangerous, so users can learn what to look out for to avoid email scam attempts.
It also has a text fraud detector, Text Scam Detector, which analyzes texts and detects those used by scammers to try to trick those who send the messages into sending them money or clicking on malicious links. As soon as it finds one, it tags the message it is included in so that it is not opened, in addition to explaining why it is considered suspicious.
Finally, Deepfake Detector is responsible for locating videos made using AI, and communicates if something being played may not be what it seems. For example, a fake video of a relative or a famous person. The company has confirmed that, in addition to being available for video in English, it will soon be available to work with videos in more languages, including French, German or Japanese. It is still unknown if and when it will arrive in Spanish.
For now it works with Gmail and Outlook accounts and it is enough to have the tool in which it is included installed so that the detector is activated when necessary. It will only be necessary to link the email account in question in the tool.
Text and video scam protection are enabled in the McAfee mobile tool for both Android and iOS. Your notices occur in the form of non-intrusive notifications. McAfee Scam Detector is coming soon included in McAfee+, McAfee Total Protection and McAfee LiveSafe plans, at no additional cost. Once it is activated, it will start working immediately.
