Volkswagen is currently engaged in discussions with Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup, regarding a potential cooperation deal for the German car giant’s Jetta brand, according to Chinese media outlet CLS. Jetta, a joint venture between Volkswagen and Chinese automaker FAW Group, is reportedly considering purchasing an electric vehicle technology platform from Leapmotor. FAW has released an internal document stating that if the collaboration proves successful, Jetta will concentrate on the economy EV market and move its marketing arm to the Chinese city of Hangzhou, according to the CLS report.
