Rackspace Technology has made public the results of its informe 2025 State of cloudin which it analyzes the evolution of the cloud throughout 2025, as well as the priorities related to it in companies. In it it is clear that hybrid cloud environments are preferred by companies for the future in terms of architecture, in addition to reflecting a restructuring of cloud strategies in all types of sectors.
The report has been prepared based on research carried out in October and November 2024 among 1,400 IT-related decision makers in their companies, all with between 1,000 and 10,000 workers and with revenues between 50 and 15 billion dollars. The companies that participated in the study, from Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East, belong to the manufacturing, logistics, retail, hospitality, health, government, financial services and media and leisure sectors.
90% of the entities that have participated in the report are planning to make significant changes to their cloud strategy within a maximum period of two years. 48% believe hybrid cloud is critical to IT operations, and 84% are already actively integrating AI into their cloud strategies. However, only 16% have fully integrated cloud adoption into their business strategy. 96% have considered implementing data privacy and compliance regulations in the cloud.
69% have considered returning workloads to private clouds from public ones. Among the reasons for this, half point to data security and regulatory compliance requirements. 48% point to better with existing systems and 44% to cost savings. It must be taken into account that 80% of the entities that carried out a repatriation of workloads ensure that their initial concerns regarding the process were satisfactorily resolved.
The research has also identified a group of companies that it has identified as “cloud leaders”, which represent around 16% of those surveyed. They are the ones that have fully integrated the cloud into their business strategies. Organizations where this has happened have a much higher success rate than the rest. 62% of them say that they exceeded performance expectations, compared to 37% of those that did not integrate the cloud.
These companies also have in common a greater integration of AI initiatives into their plans. Nevertheless, The integration of AI and cloud strategies is another of the main priorities of companies. 84% of those surveyed for the report are working towards convergence between AI and their cloud strategies. Among the main objectives they pursue with them are improvements in efficiency (49%) and improved data analytics functions (45%).
Among the activities for which the companies surveyed are using AI the most are intelligent search in documents and its process. But they are also beginning to take advantage of the possibilities that AI offers them in terms of cybersecurity.
