ANDY Reid got brutally honest when discussing a current Kansas City Chiefs star of his who once played for Bill Belichick.
This week, the Chiefs’ three-time Super Bowl head coach got to talk with new UNC head coach Bill Belichick, who knows a thing or two about success in the NFL.
Reid has three Super Bowl rings and can receive a fourth with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the big game next month.
The New England Patriots icon Belichick has six Super Bowl victories and played a role in the Chiefs’ recent success
Belichick brought Reid onto his Let’s Go podcast to speak about the game and give him his kudos for fixing what had been an underwhelming offensive line in the postseason.
A big part of the solution has been moving three-time Pro Bowl guard Joe Thuney to the left tackle position to protect Patrick Mahomes.
“Bill let me have Joe Thuney so I appreciated that,” Reid said.
“That kid we have him out at left tackle now.
“Bill, you had him as an All-Pro center, All-Pro guard, now he’s out there at left tackle. And he doesn’t say a word about it. He doesn’t complain.
“That’s a whole different world out there. There’s no security blanked when you’re on that side.
“That’s a tough spot. But he just steps in and goes.”
Thuney was selected by Belichick’s Patriots in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft and won two Super Bowls in his first seasons with the team.
In 2019, he was given a second-Team All-Pro nod and then signed with the Chiefs to a five-year, $80 million contract in 2021.
“That’s just the kind of guy he is,” Belichick spoke about Thuney’s willingness to be versatile across the line.
“He’s just gonna line up and play and you’re gonna get his best on every snap. And you know what, it’s good enough.”
Thuney helped Kansas City give up zero sacks in a 38-35 Super Bowl win over the Eagles two seasons ago, the beginning of the three-peat hopes.
However, he was injured in the team’s big game victory over the San Francisco 49ers last campaign.
Thuney will be in his sixth Super Bowl in nine seasons.
A Super Bowl victory would hand him five rings.
Mahomes will look for his fourth Super Bowl title and be just three victories away from tying Tom Brady’s mark.
His third consecutive win would be something Brady and his old coach Belichick never achieved.
As for Reid, he recorded his 28th career playoff win after the Chiefs’ AFC Championship win over the Buffalo Bills.
The 66-year-old is just three away from Belichick’s record of 31 for most ever for an NFL head coach.
