Although Android 15 rolled out in Pixel phones back in October 2024, Samsung is still waiting for a slice of the action.
Although the exact timing of the rollout hasn’t yet been confirmed for older models, we’ve put together this guide on when you can expect your handset to receive Android 15, whether you’re sporting last year’s flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra or you’re still reaping the benefits of the S21 series.
Is Android 15 officially released?
Android 15 was released in October 2024 for eligible Google Pixel smartphones, from the 2021 Pixel 6 series up to the newer Pixel 9 lineup.
At the time of writing, Android 15 can also be found across eligible smartphones from Honor, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi and others, but not Samsung.
Will Samsung get Android 15?
In short – yes, all eligible Samsung devices including smartphones and tablets will receive Android 15 in the coming months.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series, which is made up of the S25, S25 Plus and flagship S25 Ultra, will be the first of Samsung’s smartphones to see Android 15, with all handsets shipping with the software installed.
When will my Samsung phone get Android 15?
Other than the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed when Android 15 will come to other Samsung handsets. However Samsung has previously explained that its OneUI 7 skin is based on Android 15 and confirmed that its official release is imminent, which means we should start seeing upgrades in the coming months.
According to SamMobile, Android 15 is expected to arrive on the Galaxy S24, S23 series plus the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 5 and 6 from February 2025 onwards, while mid-range devices like the Galaxy A, M and F lineups will likely not see the update until around March or April 2025.
This year is very different from previous launches. When the Galaxy S24 series launched at the end of January 2024 with Android 14 built-in, its predecessor the S23 series had been eligible for the upgrade shortly after the software’s launch in October 2023.

Is Android 15 worth getting?
Considering Samsung users have been waiting a long time to see the update, it’s fair to wonder whether or not Android 15 is worth the wait.
Having said that, we’d always recommend updating to the latest software version wherever you can to ensure your device is up to date with security patches and bug fixes. With that in mind, Android 15 is absolutely worth upgrading to once it’s available on your phone.
Android 15 features
Android 15 includes a few updates from its predecessor, including AI tweaks for Circle to Search and new ways to interact with Google Gemini.
Also included with Android 15 are numerous tools to help protect your data from thieves. Coined Theft Detection, the handset will automatically lock if it detects that the phone has been snatched off and away from you. You can now remotely lock your phone if it’s been stolen too.
There’s also a new Private Space which keeps your sensitive apps out of sight and requires an additional layer of authentication to access.
To ensure you can keep connected with your loved ones, there’s now satellite connectivity in select areas which allows you to send and receive messages without a mobile or Wi-Fi connection.
When will Android 16 launch?
It may seem premature to even think about Android 16, considering we haven’t seen Android 15 reach Samsung yet, however it has been confirmed that Google is already testing the upcoming software.
As seen via Android Developers, Android 16 Developer Preview 1 is available now for developers to test with their apps, and has been since November 2024. However, at the time of writing we don’t have a confirmed launch date.
