A CUSTOMER has threatened to never return to Walmart after a payment issue.
They were even forced to leave a cart full of groceries behind due to the “stressful” experience.
Influencer Kane Hinge (@kanehinge) blasted Walmart after he went with some friends to get groceries while on vacation in Orlando, Florida, per a recent clip on TikTok.
While Kane was thrilled to find some skin care products, favorite foods, and other merchandise, he was unable to pay at self-checkout because of a Walmart policy regarding Apple Pay.
“We’ve just gotten to checkout, they don’t accept Apple Pay,” the influencer said while walking out of the store.
“None of us have bank cards and we have no cash.”
Kane noted that there was no other option for him and his friends but to leave the cart full of groceries and walk out.
“I’m never coming back here ever again, it’s so stressful,” he said.
CRUCIAL REASON
Indeed, Walmart does not accept Apply Pay in its 4,606 stores nationwide.
The main reason for this is that the retail giant prefers that customers use the Walmart mobile application, which offers a similar digital wallet feature where they can store cards.
It’s called Walmart Pay.
“We would like to have the customer open our app in the store all the time,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillion said of the policy while speaking on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.
“That’s one of the things [Walmart Pay] that we would like people to use our app for.”
While that may be the goal, several shoppers have been furious over not being able to use Apple Pay at checkout in recent months.
Last month, a Walmart fan demanded the retailer “get serious” and make an update to include Apple Pay.
“This is utterly stupid, they fumed in a post on X.
Why doesn’t Walmart offer Apple Pay?
CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don’t offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.
Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”
The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.
“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.
RAGE CONTINUES
Similar complaints were made in other threads.
“Walmart I have had enough. Y’all need to accept Apple Pay!” another customer wrote.
“@Walmart why don’t yall have Apple Pay yet? It’s 2025,” someone else said.
Others begged Walmart to make the change as they couldn’t purchase $150 worth of items.
In November, a longtime consumer at the retailer called it the “dumbest” move and pointed out that competitors like Target and Dollar Tree accept Apple Pay.
About 90% of American companies have adopted Apple Pay as a contactless service, per Capital One.
Still, it’s unlikely Walmart will include the feature anytime soon so long as Walmart Pay is an option.
Walmart has also come under fire for its anti-theft methods.
A shopper begged for the “$1 toothbrushes” to be unlocked for purchase recently.
Another customer threatened to boycott Walmart for good after finding locked glass cases at their local store.
