The new appointments will spur on the expansion of the company and shake up how the stores are run.
Steve Deckard has been appointed to executive vice-president of strategy and development.
Meanwhile, Tracey Herrmann is the new executive vice-president of store operations.
In his new role, Steve will be tasked with opening up more Dollar General stores around the country.
There are already 20,000 of the discount stores in the US – but the company is set on expanding further.
Todd Vasos, Dollar General CEO, said: “During Steve’s more than 19 years at Dollar General, his experience has spanned store operations, asset protection, real estate, financial planning as well as growth and emerging markets.
“As he played a critical role in the strategic expansion into Mexico as our first international market, I am confident his extensive knowledge of our business and its operations make him uniquely qualified for this new role as executive vice-president of strategy and development.”
Tracey will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the stores.
The arrival of a new hand at the helm is likely to bring about a refresh of in-store operations.
Vasos said: “Tracey’s drive for operational excellence and innovation during her impressive 12-year career at Dollar General will ensure our continued evolution in an increasingly competitive retail landscape.
“Her commitment to our mission coupled with her dedication to the brand will help deliver the best store experiences for our customers and employees.”
Steve began his career at Dollar General back in 2006 as a regional store director.
He is leaving behind as role as head of operations.
Before that, he spear-headed the chain’s expansion growth into Mexico.
Tracey has been doing her new job on a smaller scale – overseeing three divisions of stores in the south-east.
She has also led teams in merchandising, pricing and operations.
Last year, Dollar General continued to grow and struck the 20,000-store milestone.
It has plans to open around 800 new stores – under the leadership of Steve.
There are also schemes to remodel 1,500 locations and relocate 85 – plans that now fall under Tracey’s remit.
