Canonical has announced the launch of Kubernetes LTS, a new extended support plan for the supply of Kubernetes of the Ubuntu developer up to 12 years of maintenance, starting with the most recent version of the container orchestrador, Kubernettes 1.32.
Mark Shuttleworth, CEO of Canonical, highlights the benefits of this new version: “The constant updates of Kubernetes are a burden for business teams. With Kubernetes 1.32 lts, our clients can focus on the future knowing that their clusters will receive Security updates for 12 full years” Shuttleworth also stressed the integration with Ubuntu Pro, which will allow a safer operation and simplify compliance with standards such as Fedramp.
Canonical Kubernetes is a multi-nube distribution that provides a unified experience for developer, clouds, data centers and environments of Edge. The future versions of Microk8s and Charmed Kubernetes will also inherit the 12 -year support.
The kubernetic launch cycle is fast, with new versions every four months and security maintenance for 14 months, which can interrupt the continuity of the business and increase operating costs, they say from Canonical, whose response is a “dual strategy”: They will launch KUBERNETE PACKAGES Every four months, aligned with the upstream of the project, as well as LTS versions every two yearsas with the LTS of Ubuntu versions.
With an Ubuntu Pro subscription, these LTS versions will receive security patches for at least 12 years, guaranteeing long -term stability for critical environments such as telecommunications. This combination will allow companies to opt for rapid implementations or stability and prolonged safety, according to their needs.
Canonical includes in its Kubernetes LTS package open source components widely adopted in Similars environment such as Cilium, Metallb, Coredns, Openebs and Metrics Server, of optional use, but all covered by the same level of support. The offer also includes standardized container images for Kubernetes ecosystem services such as Istio, Conte Manager and OpenTelemetry Collector. Customers may also request the inclusion of other components through the Everything LTS program.
“Canonical Kubernetes platform offers the freedom to operate in its own way. By simplifying safety maintenance, life cycle automation and open source component integration, we make the operation of cloud-native platforms simple Canonical
Canonical KUBERNETES 1.32 LTS is now available for use in production. The safety and maintenance support is included with Ubuntu Pro subscriptions, the company’s company service plan.
