MORE than 30,000 US Postal Service offices will be closed today in another temporary shutdown.

Branches across the US will not open their doors in line with a federal holiday.

It will be the fourth time this year that USPS branches will be closed in a temporary shutdown.

Branches were closed on New Year’s Day, January 9 to commemorate Jimmy Carter’s funeral, and Martin Luther King Day on January 20.

February 17th marks President’s Day – a federal holiday that honors past commanders in chief.

The holiday is marked on the third Monday in February.

George Washington was born on February 11 1731 and Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809.

Not all states refer to the holiday as President’s Day, however.

The holiday is also known as Washington’s Birthday or Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday.

In line with the holiday, a number of locations will be closed today.

USPS branches will be closed, but Americans worried about not receiving deliveries shouldn’t worry.

This is because FedEx and Amazon packages will still arrive.

Retailers Under Fire: The Apple Pay Dilemma

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed today, but trading will restart tomorrow – February 18.

Bosses of popular banking companies like Chase and Bank of America have confirmed branches will be closed.

Branches of other banking giants like Citi and Wells Fargo will also be silent today.

But customers will still be able to go to the ATM and bank digitally.

Federal workers will also have a day off today.

What’s open and closed on President’s Day?

FEBRUARY 17 marks President’s Day – a holiday that pays homage to past commanders in chief. But what is open and closed today?

  • USPS branches
  • Stock exchange
  • Federal government offices
  • Most schools
  • Banks

What’s open?

  • Major supermarket chains
  • Pharmacies
  • Restaurants

But, there will not be a retail blackout because grocery stores will still be open.

Walmart, Target, and Trader Joe’s stores will be open as normal.

This means that shoppers don’t have to do last minute trips to stockpile on groceries.

Americans will still be able to pick up their prescriptions from drugstore giants like CVS and Walgreens.

And, they can still take their families out for dinner at favorites like Applebee’s and Cracker Barrel.
