A NEW report has unveiled the most valuable gold coins that sold on eBay during recent months, raking in up to $59,624.
An analysis of eBay’s sales data also revealed the most expensive silver coins bought on the online marketplace, going for upwards of $23,000.

Growing in popularity throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, numismatics has evolved into a popular hobby, captivating collectors and investors alike.
Today, rare coins often sell for thousands or even millions of dollars through platforms such as Heritage Auctions, APMEX, and eBay.
SD Bullion, a leading bullion dealer, analyzed eBay’s sales data to uncover the most pricey gold and silver coins sold between November 2024 and January 2025, offering a glimpse into the high demand for precious metals.
GOLDEN TREASURES
The top three gold coin listings that sold on eBay over the past few months each raked in nearly $60,000.
- Tube of 20 One-Ounce American Gold Eagle $50 BU Coins, 2024
Raking highest on the list and selling for an astounding $59,624 was a tube containing 20 Brilliant Uncirculated, or BU, American Gold Eagle $50 coins from 2024, weighing one ounce each.

The American Gold Eagle was first minted in 1986 following the passage of the Gold Bullion Act of 1985, which authorized the production of gold bullion coins for investors using gold sourced exclusively from US mines.
Renowned for its gold purity, each coin is made with one troy ounce of 22-karat gold, alloyed with small amounts of silver and copper to improve durability.
The coins are also highly coveted due to their iconic design, featuring Lady Liberty on the obverse and a family of eagles on the reverse.
2. Tube of 20 One-Ounce Gold American Eagle $50 BU Coins, 2025
The second most valuable gold coin eBay listing was a mint tube of 20 one-ounce Gold American Eagle $50 coins from 2025, selling for $58,706.
Minted and released in 2024, collectors often seek future-dated coins such as these due to their potential for increased value and collectibility.
The slight price difference compared to the American Gold Eagle set from 2024 may reflect market expectations and gold price fluctuations, according to SD Bullion.
Greg Bennick, a rare coin expert specializing in American historical coins and mint errors, shared his insight on the year and price differences between the first and second most valuable gold coin listings on eBay.
“People love to have the latest and greatest, just like in any other field,” he said. “The mint has gotten wise to the game and occasionally adds a variety to a new coin, which makes these coins more desirable for a moment in time.”
“At the end of the day, these are bullions coins and buyers should be aware of the risky nature of ‘investing’ in gold but paying more than the gold is actually worth because of a promise of future potential,” he warned.
3. Tube of 20 One-Ounce American Gold Eagle $50 Coins BU, Random Year
Ranking third on the list of pricey eBay gold coin listings was a tube containing 20 BU American Gold Eagle $50 coins weighing one ounce each.
From random years, the highly coveted tube of coins sold for a whopping $58,616.
Because the coins were from an assortment of years, the listing offered an element of surprise to collectors and could include coins from rare or significant mintage years.

The top three silver coin listings on eBay that sold between November 2024 and January 2025 each pulled in over $23,000.
- Bag of 4,000 90% Silver Washington Quarters – $1,000 Face Value
Leading the list of silver coins sold on eBay was a bag containing 4,000 90% Silver Washington Quarters.
Despite its $1,000 face value, the bag sold for a whopping $23,271.
These coins are popular among investors due to their silver content, with each pre-1965 quarter containing 0.1808 troy ounces of silver and the bag totaling 723 ounces of the metal.
They are commonly known as “junk silver” – but don’t let the name fool you.
“The moniker ‘junk’ just relates to the massive amount of this type of material that exists and isn’t a commentary on its value as a precious metal itself,” said Bennick.
“Silver is silver after all, regardless of whether it is in the form of bars or coins.”
2. Bag of 2,000 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars – $1,000 Face Value
Ranking second among the top-selling silver coin listings was a bag containing 2,000 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars, with a face value of $1,000.
Minted in 1964, the coins each contain 0.3617 troy ounces of silver.
The bulk bag, selling for $23,179, raked in such as high price due to its high silver content and the collectible nature of the Kennedy Half Dollar series.
3. Bag of 10,000 90% Silver Dimes – $1,000 Face Value
The third most valuable silver coin listing on eBay was a bag of 90% silver dimes with a face value of $1,000, selling for $23,103.
The 10,000 dimes, likely containing a mix of the Mercury and Roosevelt designs, contain a total of around 715 troy ounces of silver.
The small denomination of dimes is appealing to investors, as it offers flexibility when it comes to resale and barter situations.
The high price of these three bags containing silver coins reflects their desirability, which is especially high during periods of instability as people gravitate towards hard assets like precious metals, Bennick noted.
Bennick added that while bullion coins remain relatively stable overall, their resale value is influenced by factors beyond the numismatic value of the coins.
“Numismatically, rarity, mintage, condition, and overall quality are essential to consider. In terms of bullion, it’s more of a numbers game where investors are hoping to buy low and sell high as the metal price fluctuates,” Bennick said.
