The Mesa Venus driver code for use with VirtIO-GPU for exposing accelerated Vulkan API support within virtualized environments (VMs) now is advertising Vulkan 1.4 API support.

The VirtIO-GPU Venus driver code within Mesa 25.1-devel is joining Intel ANV, Lavapipe, NVIDIA NVK, RADV, and the Adreno TURNIP drivers in exposing Vulkan 1.4 API support. Vulkan 1.4 debuted in early December but has been quick to see support by the open-source Mesa Vulkan drivers.

Vulkan 1.4 mandates various newer extensions, improves rendering for 8K, and other enhancements over the Vulkan 1.3 specification.

This merge hitting Mesa 25.1 Git on Saturday added in the remaining bits for Vulkan 1.4 core extension support, features, and other requirements for exposing Vulkan 1.4. On the Virglrenderer side for the host renderer bits of Vulkan 1.4, this merge took Vulkan 1.4 over the finish line with virglrenderer.
