Angie’s representative Deborah R. Champagne confirmed the heartbreaking news to TMZ.

A local TV station reported on a wreck following a deadly collision around 7am, believed to be the one that killed Angie.

The tragic crash reportedly involved “a commercial vehicle”, according to WSFA.

Angie’s daughter Diamond Stone led touching tributes to the icon, in a Facebook post.

Diamond confirmed her mother’s death and said: “My mommy is gone.”

Angie is also survived by her son Michael Archer and two grandchildren.

She shot to fame as part of the all-female hip-hop group The Sequence.

The trio were the first women group to be signed to the iconic Sugar Hill Records and they were best known hits like Funk You Up.

This song was sampled by Bruno Mars for his worldwide number one Uptown Funk and by Dr Dre in his song Keep Their Heads Ringin’.

Angie later left the group and embarked on a solo career in the 1990s.
