No more projector that lights up a white canvas: here, the screen directly emits the image, offering an impressive visual quality. “” With the Pathé Palace, we demonstrate once again that Samsung is at the forefront of innovation in the field of cinema, by offering solutions that revolutionize the experience of the big screen “Explains Jérémy Taghon, Director of the B2B division of Samsung France. The result is an ultra-luminous image, contrasts that slam and an absolute black. A cinema experience that sets your eyes full!

A historic cinema that is modernizing

Samsung’s onyx LEDs aligns the impressive figures. For a 10 meter screen, no less than 96 LED blocks are assembled, accumulating more than 26 million pixels. The result is stunful sharpness and vibrant colors, even in the dark scenes.

But who says new screen also says new sound. Traditionally, the speakers are placed behind the screen, which is not possible here. Pathé therefore opted for a system designed by Adde, with speakers above and below the screen. For his part, Samsung offers an alternative with Harman and an algorithm to simulate a central sound. The rendering is convincing, even if the purists could regret the lack of “natural” resonance of the classic rooms.

Obviously, such technology has a Price. Installing an ONYX LED screen costs four to five times more than traditional equipment, and this is felt on the price of tickets. To take advantage of this premium visual experience, you will have to pay 25 euros per session. A sum that could cool some, but Pathé is focusing on a new way of going to the cinema: a high -end space, with cloakroom, wine bar and concierge.

And after? Samsung already has projects to improve its Onyx screen. The next step: integrate augmented reality to allow spectators to choose the language of the subtitles with special glasses. Other cinemas, in France and elsewhere, could follow this trend. Samsung counts about twenty projects of this kind by the end of the year, says the manufacturer.

Does Pathé Palace mark the end of traditional cinema? Difficult to say. For the moment, the seventh room of the complex still retains a classic screen with Dolby Vision projector, just to lose the fans of the old old -fashioned screen. Nevertheless, it is very clear that a new era opens for dark rooms.
