The experts at PCMag know a little something about reviewing tech, having conducted over 40,000 reviews in the past 40+ years. We run monitors through a series of tests, including color accuracy and quality, brightness, input lag, port selection, and more. What you’re looking for in a monitor directly corresponds to how you’ll be using it, so we consider quite a lot when making a recommendation and finding a deal.

Is your dull old monitor interfering with your streaming and gaming plans? Good news: Popular brands like Acer, Dell, and Samsung are on sale now, offering high resolutions and refresh rates at low prices. Have you noticed a dip in image quality when using your desktop or laptop? Don’t panic and run out to replace your graphics card or even your whole laptop. Instead, check out one of these discounted computer monitors to quickly and affordably upgrade your viewing experience. Now, let’s take a look at those monitor deals…

Best Monitor Deals Right Now

Samsung ViewFinity S5 UltraWide 34” 1440p Monitor

Acer Nitro KG241Y Sbiip 23.8” 1080p 165Hz Gaming Monitor

Samsung Odyssey G9 49

For those who haven’t shopped for a new screen lately, recent innovations include curved displays and ultrawide monitors. Specs like brightness, refresh rate, and resolution keep getting better, and many top-notch displays are available at reasonable prices. If you’re just tired of plugging in a bulky HDMI and your charger, grabbing a USB-C display could be worth the upgrade. A good gaming monitor follows the same tenants of a good home and office monitor, only resolution and refresh rates are more critical. You’ll want at least 60Hz for 1080p resolutions, but the more the better. Also worth considering is FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatibility, which really just means your monitor can be synced to the frame rates your GPU is capable of putting out, ensuring a smooth, tear-free viewing experience.

Here are the best sales we’ve found for a new monitor right now:

(If your PC has an HDMI-out, consider using one of these discounted TVs as a monitor. They’ll provide streaming capabilities for when you’re not working.)

Home and Office Monitor Deals

Staring at a monitor for hours can damage your eyes, which is why many monitors now come with blue-light filters. Ergonomic features such as tilt and swivel further enhance your viewing comfort, but you should also keep resolution in mind. If you have the desk space, you should check out the 31.5-inch  Acer EZ321Q wi, a 1080p IPS monitor with VGA and HDMI inputs and a 60Hz refresh rate.

Acer EZ321Q wi 31.5

This spacious 31.5-inch display by Acer is a good deal for those who still have a VGA port on their desktops, though there’s also an HDMI 1.4 option. With a 1080p resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate, this monitor will deliver clear and tear-free content and is suited for personal or WFH use. The rear panel enables you to wall mount this monitor if you wish and 31-inches is enough real estate to use as your main display whether you have a desktop or are extending your laptop’s display.

Samsung ViewFinity S5 UltraWide 34” 1440p Monitor

This ultrawide monitor does a lot right, giving you a generous amount of screen real estate, QHD resolution, and a 100Hz refresh rate that is suitable for mainstream usage like streaming content as well as some gaming. Though this isn’t necessarily a gaming monitor, HDR10  and AMD FreeSync will give picture quality a boost, making this monitor a good choice for creators as well. At $160 off, we think this monitor is a great value for those who want to work and play and aren’t looking to play the latest blockbuster title in max settings.

Gaming Monitor Deals

The best budget monitor on our list currently is the 23.8-inch Asus TUF Gaming, which has the lowest price tag on the list, but still provides a 1080p resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. This will serve you well as a secondary display due to its smaller size.

Acer Nitro KG241Y Sbiip 23.8” 1080p 165Hz Gaming Monitor

If you’re on a budget, then we’ve got a monitor in mind for you. Designed with gamers in mind, the 23.8-inch 1080p Acer Nitro has a DisplayPort 1.2 and an HDMI 2.0 port for fast and reliable connectivity to your PC or console. The 165Hz refresh rate will keep on-screen action smooth and the zero-frame design gives you the most display space possible. You likely won’t use this monitor on its own given the vertical measurement and the razor thin bezel on the sides makes it so that two of these monitors side-by-side will be virtually seamless. Check out more of our picks for the best budget gaming monitor to see how this deal stacks up.

Samsung Odyssey G9 49

This huge display is like placing two 24.5-inch OLED monitors side-by-side. With that much screen real estate, you’ll never have to worry about juggling tabs and applications. Our expert called the OLED Samsung Odyssey G9 “a feast for the eyes” and, while this LED model won’t have darks as deep as an OLED model, it offers the same 5,120-by-1,440 resolution as well as a 1000R curvature for the deepest possible immersion. The rapid 240Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro capability work together to deliver stunning gameplay that is crisp, clear, and free from lag or screen tearing. This model also costs a fraction of what the OLED model does, making it much more approachable in terms of budget for a big screen.

FAQ

Where Can I Get the Best Deal on a Computer Monitor?

Amazon and Walmart are reliable stores for monitor deals, but don’t forget about Newegg, too. If you’re a Dell fan, you can often snag a deal directly from the PC maker, especially if you’re bundling it with a PC purchase.

Which Computer Monitor Brand Is the Best?

Our roundup of the best computer monitors is dominated by Dell and its Alienware gaming brand. But our most recent Readers’ Choice survey for monitors crowned LG as the brand to beat.

Which Monitor Is Best for Daily Use?

The Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Hub Monitor (U2723QE) is our pick for the best overall business monitor. It isn’t cheap, but it delivers loads of connection and adjustment choices, amping up an extra-poppy panel with a wide color gamut and superb contrast. For something more affordable, we like the HP 24mh 23.8-Inch Display.

How Do I Choose a Budget Gaming Monitor?

Screen size is one of the most important factors in choosing a new monitor, whether you’re gaming or working from home. Consider your space constraints as well as your budget–the bigger the monitor, the bigger the price tag. Resolution is also an important consideration, but buying a 4K monitor when your graphics card isn’t up to snuff is pointless.

Then, look at the types of games you’ll be playing. Input lag is especially crucial for competitive gaming, while refresh rate and HDR will benefit most gamers with smoother, more vibrant image quality. Some gaming monitors offer HDMI 2.1 connectivity, which is faster than HDMI 2.0, as well as VRR (variable refresh rates), which enables the display to match the refresh rate that your GPU is capable of pushing, resulting in a smooth gaming experience with decreased input lag. It’s important to note that G-Sync and FreeSync monitors require a compatible graphics card with a DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0/2.1 output.

The most common type of panel types are VA (vertical alignment) and IPS (in-plane switching). IPS panels offer good color quality and wide viewing angles while VA panels also offer robust colors, but aren’t quite as broad. Mini LEDs and OLEDs are also becoming more common, offering superior brightness and contrast, but you likely won’t be seeing affordable prices on those any time soon.

Are Cheap 144Hz Monitors Worth It?

Remember: the price of a monitor is directly related to the screen size, panel technology, and features, so if you’re paying less then there’s likely a tradeoff. Having a high refresh rate doesn’t guarantee your games will be free of screen tearing; you also have to take into account your graphics card’s capabilities. As technology advances, we have been seeing cheaper monitors at higher refresh rates.

How Much Do Decent Monitors Cost?

That depends on the type of monitor you’re shopping for: screen size, available features, and the target audience all contribute to the asking price. You can get a basic 23-inch productivity-geared panel for less than $100 but don’t expect it to have high refresh rates or an adjustable stand. A decent budget monitor will set you back around $150 on sale, and our expert recommends the 23.8-inch HP 24mH, which is feature-rich for the price. As for a gaming monitor, The 27-inch ViewSonic Omni VX2728J-2K offers excellent color range and high color accuracy for just $200.

What Is the Best Gaming Monitor Under $250?

The 27-inch Dell S2721HGF we mentioned earlier is a fantastic option. If your budget is just a little bigger, the larger 32-inch HP Omen 32q offers a 1440p display resolution.  You can find more gaming monitor options in our Best Cheap Gaming Monitors article.

Why Are Curved Monitors More Expensive?

A curved monitor not only enhances the immersivity of your gaming experience, but can give you an upper hand depending on the game you’re playing if it is also ultrawide. Battle-royales, for example, support a 21:9 resolution, so a wider curved monitor will give you a wider field of view over someone using a standard 16:9 panel. Our experts recommend the NZXT Canvas 32Q in terms of an affordable curved monitor.

Curved monitors are measured in curvature, denoted by an R (or radius). For example, A ring of 1500R monitors would form a circle with a radius of 1,500mm. The lower the number, the tighter the curve, which is meant to mimic the curvature of the eye.
