CodeWeavers that continues to be the largest patron to the development of the open-source Wine software announced today CrossOver 25.0 as the newest version of their commercial downstream.
CrossOver 25 is built atop Wine 10.0 for powering Windows games and applications on Linux and macOS platforms. There are more than 5,000 changes with this big upgrade that also pulls in VKD3D 1.14, MoltenVK 1.2.10, Wine Mono 9.4, and other updates.
While most Linux gamers are content with using Valve’s Steam Play (Proton), CrossOver 25.0 is particularly heavy on enhancing the gaming experience for macOS gamers. CrossOver 25.0 gaming on macOS is now more seamless with new settings and other enhancements — with enough bits now in place that Red Dead Redemption 2 can run on macOS. CrossOver 25.0 also includes DXMT as a Metal-based implementation of Direct3D 11 on macOS.
Linux and macOS users wishing to learn more about the CrossOver 25.0 commercial software can do so via today’s release announcement.
