Instagram Threads rocked the internet when it debuted in early July 2023; the Meta-owned alternative to X/Twitter racked up more than 100 million users within hours of its launch.
Threads is a text-based conversation app. You can create posts with up to 500 characters, and add links, photos and videos, too. Ready to nail your Threads strategy? Keep these best practices in mind as you use Instagram Threads.
1. Let loose
Something you may have gathered as you looked through all of our Threads post ideas and examples is this: Threads is a highly unserious social media platform.
This social network really gives you the chance to let loose, give your brand some personality, and have fun with your content. Think of it like a place where your brand can be just as creative as you would be when sharing Instagram stories or engaging with your audience on TikTok.
As Tal Holtzer, CEO at VPSServer, says, “Take advantage of the platform’s casual, community-driven style. Threads isn’t the place for overly polished, business-like content. Brands that do well here focus on being real, sharing quick insights, moments behind the scenes, and real talks.”
David Hunter, founder of Local Falcon, has another take. Hunter shares, “Brands that approach Threads like a casual conversation rather than another broadcast channel tend to see better results. Unlike other platforms, Threads rewards consistency and interaction over high-polished content.”

Your Threads account is the perfect place to share personal stories or anecdotes, milestones within your company, personal updates, and more. Share real-time current events, talk about the life of being an entrepreneur or small business owner, or repost posts in your niche as a way to engage with your target audience.

3. Interact with others
As you scroll the Threads app, one thing you’ll notice is the vast amount of brand accounts that are leaving comments on new Threads from other brands, creators, and regular users. This is a place to engage, rather than just “post at.”

Threads is all about building community, so you have to be willing to put in the time to thoughtfully interact with others.”
How do you do that? Yang continues, “Comment on people’s social media posts, ask questions, and have actual conversations — don’t just post content into the void hoping people will notice. Make connections and relationships. Share knowledge and experiences. Be helpful and add value for others, not just yourself.”
