MILLIONS of Amazon Prime members can claim big discounts on clothes, shoes, laptops and more.

If you’re on the cheaper version of Amazon Prime, there are some tempting price cuts available.

It’s part of the Prime for Students and 18-22 Year-Olds membership.

As the name suggests, this is a membership that UK students can claim, as well as anyone aged between 18 and 22 years old.

The big perk is that it’s way cheaper than regular £8.99 Prime – coming in at a far friendlier £4.49 a month.

But it has an exclusive discounts perk that full-fat Amazon Prime doesn’t.

“Enjoy Student exclusive discounts and offers,” Amazon says.

“Such as discounts on thousands of textbooks, on selected clothing, shoes and accessories, on selected Chromebooks, on National Express coach tickets and more.”

To find them, you can just head over to Amazon’s special Student page.

For instance, the website is currently promoting 10% off select clothes and “thousands of textbooks”.

And it’s offering up 15% off coach tickets from National Express.

There’s also an offer for 10% off sports nutrition from HIGH5 and Reflex.

Some of the deals will cycle in and out, so it’s worth checking back regularly to see what’s on there.

Regular Amazon Prime members won’t be able to claim them – so it’s a decent perk.

SAVE BIG

Even if you don’t want the discounts, bagging this cheaper Prime membership is a good deal.

Amazon Prime would normally cost £95 if you pay annually, or £107.88 over the course of a year with the £8.99 monthly fee.

But the cheaper Prime for Students and 18-22 Year-Olds costs either £47.49 yearly or £4.49 a month (that’s £53.88 annually).

There’s also an added benefit: you get six months of free membership at the start.

That’s a huge upgrade on the usual 30-day trial that everyone else gets.

PRIME TIME

So what’s the deal with getting this special Prime membership?

The first way is for students: you’ll need to be enrolled in a higher education institution that’s geographically located in the UK or enrolled.

You can sign up with an email address that’s associated with that institution – or you can email Amazon with another kind of proof instead.

The second way is to get the 18-22 membership, which was only added last summer.

For that, you just need an Amazon UK account and documented proof of age.

HOW TO ENROL IF YOU’RE A STUDENT WITH NO OFFICIAL EMAIL

Here’s what you need to know…

If you don’t have an official recognised email for your university or college, there’s still hope.

You can send proof of age and enrolment to [email protected].

Make sure that you’re messaging from the email address linked to your Amazon UK account (and that the account has an up-to-date payment method).

And attach a scan, photo, or screenshot of either:

  • A valid NUS Extra, NUS Apprentice Extra, TOTUM, TOTUM Student or TOTUM Apprentice card (must show your name, institution, and date of expiry). Please note that TOTUM Pro/Professional or UNiDAYS ID cards are not accepted.
  • A proof of student status letter (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and start date, expected graduation/completion date).
  • A tuition bill for the current term (must include institution name, course details and start date, student address).
  • A tuition invoice for the current term with your name and your institution’s name on it.
  • An official acceptance letter for the upcoming term (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and enrollment date, expected graduation/completion date).

If you’re eligible then you should get an email back in a few days to help you complete your sign-up.

That could be a passport or driving licence, for instance.

If you’re a student, you can keep your discounted rate for the full term of study, or for up to four years.

And 18 to 22-year-olds will lose their discount when they turn 23.

The maximum time that anyone can keep a half-price Prime membership is six years.

There are millions of Brits that fit into these categories, so don’t miss out on the savings.

To claim it, just go to Amazon’s Prime membership page here.

PRIME CHANGES

There are a couple of differences between regular Prime and the cheaper version.

For a start, the cheaper membership gets the exclusive student discounts.

And it also includes a longer six-month free trial.

However, you won’t be able to invite other people in your home to share your membership – unlike Prime proper.

There’s also no access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

And you’ll only get a single one-month Twitch channel subscription.

HOW MUCH DOES AMAZON PRIME COST?

Here’s what you need to know about Amazon Prime pricing in the UK…

A standard Amazon Prime membership costs £8.99 a month – that’s £107.88 over the course of a year.

If you pay annually, you’ll be billed £95 instead.

For TV fans who just want Amazon Prime Video without a full Prime membership, it’ll cost you £5.99 a month, working out at £71.88 for the year.

Students can get discounted Amazon Prime, with the monthly cost reduced to £4.49 (or £53.88 over the course of a year).

And for students who pay annually, the one-off yearly fee is £47.49.

With regular Prime, you’d get a fresh one to use every single month.

The rest of the benefits are the same.
