If there are certain brands you just can’t stand, Reddit will now let you hide their ads.
If you click the “Hide” button next to an advertiser’s post, Reddit won’t serve you their ads for “at least a year,” according to a post on the Reddit Safety subreddit, first spotted by Ars Technica. If one year isn’t enough, you’ll be able to re-block the advertiser again when the time expires.
The feature is set to debut “in the next few weeks” on the Reddit website and apps. The Reddit post didn’t provide much clarity about the limits of the new feature and what restrictions are in place to stop users from blocking every ad they see. But some users have already spotted “daily limits” on the number of ads they can block, Ars Technica notes.
Reddit had already given its users some ad-blocking features, but they were not nearly as in-depth. Users could block entire categories of sensitive ads by type, like gambling, alcohol, or political activism.
The news comes as Reddit is looking to generate revenue from sources beyond advertising. In October, it turned a profit for the first time in its history as a publicly traded company. According to Reddit’s CEO, paywalled content is set to make its debut on the site at some point in 2025, though this will only apply to new rather than pre-existing subreddits.

The website also teased other potential avenues to generate revenue, including introducing an in-house payment system, as well as selling “social listening” data to third parties. Reddit has also been busy rolling out plenty of features that have nothing to do with monetization, including new tools that allow users to check if their posts meet community guidelines before they post.
