ESPN reported Friday that Kareem Hunt has agreed a one-year deal worth $2.5 million with the team.
Hunt has had two spells with the Chiefs already.
He was taken in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and released by the Chiefs in 2018 after a video of an incident off the field.
The running back, 29, played five seasons for the Cleveland Browns from 2019 to 2023.
He returned to Kansas City in 2024 to help ease their injury struggles.
Hunt now joins a healthy again Isiah Pacheco in the backfield.
And Kansas City also signed Elijah Mitchell from the San Francisco 49ers during free agency.
The 29-year-old had 904 total yards and seven touchdowns during the 2024 regular-season.
He added 130 more with two touchdowns during the playoffs.
But he was a non-factor in the Super Bowl, having just three carries for nine yards and one catch for five yards.
Kansas City has been busy reshaping it’s roster for a run at a fourth straight Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes restructured his contract along with defensive star Chris Jones.
The pair helped clear $49 million in cap space for the Chiefs to play with during free agency.
The team added Jaylon Moore as an offensive tackle to help protect Mahomes.

The quarterback was sacked six times by a rampant Philadelphia Eagles defence during the Super Bowl.
Tight end Travis Kelce is returning for another season.
He’ll be joined at that position by another free agency signing in Robert Tonyan.
Kansas City held onto Marquise “Hollywood” Brown at wide receiver.
But DeAndre Hopkins agreed to join the Baltimore Ravens to team up with Lamar Jackson.
