On Tuesday, ESPN announced the finalization of a deal to make NFL insider and analyst Peter Schrager a contributor to the network’s football coverage.

Schrager left his role with NFL Network after being a host of the hit program Good Morning Football, as well as his work with Fox Sports, where he worked for Fox NFL Sunday and other shows.

The 42-year-old will appear on ESPN’s numerous programs, including Get Up, First Take, The Pat McAfee Show, SportsCenter, and NFL Live.

And Schrager didn’t waste time, as he appeared on Get Up, First Take, and The Pat McAfee Show, and he received arguably the warmest and most enthusiastic welcome from the latter program.

During the early part of his show, McAfee introduced Schrager to his viewers.

He brought up Schrager’s sports media start, noting that he attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

McAfee then said that Schrager “chose to take the long road” to become an NFL “insider, analyst, pundit, mock drafter,” which helped himself win an Emmy Award with GMFB.

“He is joining ESPN. An absolute legend. Ladies and gentlemen, friend of the program, Peter Schrager,” McAfee said.

Schrager then remotely appeared on the screen as the show’s cast cheered on the new ESPN star.

Then, Schrager thanked McAfee and gave the former Colts star for being on the air at his usual show studios in Indianapolis after recently being in London to be on the call of WWE‘s Raw.

McAfee posted the sequence on X and captioned the clip, “WELCOME TO ESPN @PSchrags [clapping emoji] #PMSLive.”

Fans were thrilled about Schrager’s new career role in the comments.

“He is the best congrats,” one wrote.

“Wait, WHAT!!!! I didn’t know he was going to ESPN, let’s go,” another commented.

“Right on!! Dudes a game changer!!” a third said.

Schefter will be part of this month’s NFL Draft coverage, which begins on April 24 in Green Bay.

ESPN revealed on its website that Schrager will be a “signature voice” on the Super Bowl, free agency, and the NFL Draft.

Schrager will also work on ESPN radio, podcasts, and digital platforms.

“I’m incredibly excited for this amazing opportunity with ESPN,” Schrager said.

“Beyond their fantastic year-round, wall-to-wall, coverage of the NFL, ESPN is personally special to me.

Pat McAfee’s playing days

Pat McAfee enjoyed a hugely successful stint before switching to a career in the media.

The talk show star played punter in the NFL for eight seasons from 2009 to 2016.

He was a seventh round NFL Draft pick in 2009 out of West Virginia and spent his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts.

The ex-punter was named to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2016, and he was a first team All-Pro in 2014, as well.

McAfee owns the unique NFL record of the highest career net average punting yards with 41.4 yards while his longest ever punt was 74.

“I grew up watching ‘SportsCenter’ three or four times every morning before school and swore by that “NFL Primetime” music with Chris Berman and Tom Jackson doing the highlights on Sunday nights.

“I can’t wait to be a part of it all and am thrilled to be joining this incredible team.”
