AARON RODGERS met with the Minnesota Vikings over the offseason – but the organization look set to roll with JJ McCarthy as their QB1.

The four-time MVP continues to mull over his free agency options after leaving the New York Jets.

Rodgers spent two unhappy years with the Green Gang, culminating in his departure in January.

The 41-year-old snapped his Achilles on his first ever drive at MetLife Stadium in August 2023.

And his second season as a starter saw the Jets miss out on the postseason with a 5-12 record.

Rodgers has yet to pick his next destination after meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers last month.

ESPN’s s Kevin Seifert suggests the Vikings may yet be a viable landing spot for the veteran play-caller.

Minnesota are currently set to hand the reins to McCarthy, last year’s first-round pick.

McCarthy missed his entire rookie season after undergoing knee surgery.

But should the Vikings get cold feet over McCarthy’s NFL readiness, Rodgers’ on a short-term deal may yet be an option.

“McCarthy would have to demonstrate overwhelming evidence this spring that he will not be ready to play this season [for Rodgers to be a viable alternative],” Seifert said.

“Either because of an injury or a complete reversal of the skills and aptitude he demonstrated during his short time in training camp last summer.“

Vikings’ Strategic Quarterback Shakeup

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed Rodgers “reached out” to the organization after leaving the Jets.

“He happened to be at a point in time in his career where he was free to have some real dialogue about what his future may look like,” O’Connell told reporters this week.

“And we happened to be one of those teams that he reached out to.

“I have had a personal relationship with him going back since my playing days.”

Despite the Rodgers meeting, O’Connell confirmed he still feels “very good” about McCarthy being his QB1.

“I do feel very strongly about where [McCarthy is] at right now,” he continued.

“Based upon the information we have from the evaluation process, the time we had with him, I feel very good about projecting a really positive year for J.J.

“And now we’ve got to go to work and do it.”
