NEW York Jets quarterback Justin Fields has already done something that Aaron Rodgers couldn’t say he achieved during his first official day with the team.

The Jets signed the former first-round pick Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal, with $30 million guaranteed, last month after cutting the four-time NFL MVP Rodgers.

Fields has replaced Rodgers after two disappointing seasons from the 41-year-old.

So what does the 26-year-old Fields accomplish that the former Green Bay Packers legend never did?

Fields reported for the first day of offseason workouts on Monday.

Rodgers hadn’t once turned up to the first day of the Jets’ offseason programs in his two seasons with the club.

Fields made his first trip to 1 Jets Drive and trained with his new teammates.

The Jets, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears were the only teams to take part in OTAs for the 2025 campaign on Monday.

Teams with new head coaches got a head start on their spring workouts.

The Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars, both of whom have new head coaches, are set to begin their practices on Tuesday.

And the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints will start their offseason program next Monday.

Fields played last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being traded from the Chicago Bears.

The Uncertain Future of Aaron Rodgers

He started the first six games, leading Steel City to a 4-2, but lost his job for the rest of the campaign to Russell Wilson, who returned from injury.

The Steelers lost the last five games of the season, including to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round of the postseason.

Fields could’ve been a Jet when he entered the league in 2021.

But the Jets took BYU product and future bust Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick, and the Bears took Fields nine picks later.

The Jets will look to build an offense around Fields, who will play under new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.

NFL important dates 2025 season

March 12 – Free Agency begins

April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin

September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)

November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header

January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season

February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California

Fields should also be ecstatic to reunite with star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, his Ohio State teammate.

The dynamic quarterback has passed for 7,780 yards and 45 touchdowns in 50 games and has rushed for 2,509 yards and 19 rushing scores.

During Fields’ six starts, he threw for five passing touchdowns against one interception with a 65.8 completion rate.

As for Rodgers, he has yet to sign with an NFL team.

It appears that Rodgers is most likely to join the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team he visited with last month.

He led the Jets to a disappointing 5-12 record in 2024, throwing 28 passing touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
