Each year, the income declaration campaign in France is accompanied by different limits according to the location locations. This organization has been set up by the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFIP) and it responds to technical and logistical imperatives.
Avoid overload of the official website
The main reason for this differentiation is to avoid overload of the official taxes site (which you can discover here: taxes.gouv.fr). With 40 million tax households concerned, a massive influx of connections around a single date could cause slowdowns or interruptions from the service.
By segmenting the calendar by geographic areas, the DGFIP distributes connections over several days and guarantees Ainnsi a fluid and effective access for all taxpayers.
The calendar is divided into three zones corresponding to the departments:
- Zone 1 (departments 1 to 19) with a deadline set for Thursday, May 22, 2025
- Zone 2 (departments 20 to 54, including Corsica) with a deadline for Wednesday, May 28, 2025
- Zone 3 (Departments 55 to 974/976, DOM included) with a deadline on Thursday June 5, 2025.
In a way, this organization recalls that used for school holidays and also aims to simplify the administrative work of local tax services. If you still have any questions, you can also go to the official Bercy simulator (here) to enter your postal code and find out what is the deadline to declare your taxes in 2025.
What about the sanction?
Here are some examples of limits for 2025 in the main French cities: Paris and Île-de-France, Thursday June 5, 2025 (zone 3); Lyon (Rhône), Wednesday May 28, 2025 (zone 2); Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Wednesday May 28, 2025 (zone 2) and for Lille (North), Thursday June 5, 2025 (Zone 3).
For those who declare their income via the paper formthe deadline is earlier. In 2025, it was set for Tuesday, May 20, regardless of the department. In addition, non-residents must finalize their online declaration before Thursday, May 22, 2025.

It is also crucial to recall a point: Even if you are not taxable because your income is below the tax thresholdsthe declaration remains compulsory. It allows the tax administration to assess your situation and to issue you a non-taxation notice. This document may be necessary to access certain social assistance or to justify your income from third -party organizations.
Failure to comply with the deadline for your department can lead to financial penalties, even in the absence of a tax payable. A 10% delay increase in the amount due can be applied if the declaration is not filed within the time limits. It is therefore key to check the dates that correspond to your place of residence (and not wait until the last day) to avoid this frustrating penalty.
