Xbox games are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 – can we dream of Game Pass?

Microsoft is keen to support the new Switch 2 console by keeping Nintendo gamers well stocked with Xbox games.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has pledged support for the Switch 2 and with first-party games like Pentiment and Grounded making there way to the original Switch, folks have been wondering whether more of the best Xbox games could make it to the more powerful sequel hardware.

Microsoft has been readily sharing some of its biggest Xbox Studios games with PlayStation gamers. Indiana Jones debuts on PS5 this week and Forza Horizon 5 is coming soon.

Can we expect some of these bigger hitters to come to the Switch 2 given power-hungry games like Cyberpunk 2077 will make its debut on the console this year?

“So we’ve been supporting Switch 1, I want to support Switch 2,” Spencer told Variety in an interview.

“Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox. It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games.”

Spencer also says he’s a “big believer” in Nintendo and that can only be positive news for gamers

It has been rumoured that Microsoft’s will unleash the Halo franchise on third-party consoles next. They would seem good candidates to come to Switch 2 also.

Of course Microsoft has its own ambitions in the handheld realm with an Xbox-branded device – possibly made by ASUS – being tipped for later this year.

Opinion

Microsoft would clearly love to have Game Pass on the Switch 2, enabling Nintendo gamers to access a large library of titles as part of the month by month subscription. Nintendo is highly unlikely to sanction such a move even though it might aid Switch 2 hardware sales.  Microsoft is welcome to release whatever games it likes for standalone purchase and boost the third-party support of Nintendo consoles that is often lacking.  However turning the Switch 2 into a handheld Xbox is unlikely to be on Nintendo’s radar.
