Nintendo held its long-awaited Switch 2 Direct on April 4 where it revealed all about the upcoming console – including 60 new and enhanced titles from a wide range of developers.

While some games – like Mario Kart World and Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – had entire sections of the live stream dedicated to all the new features and upgrades coming to the games, others only received a brief clip to get fans excited in the run-up to the Switch 2 launch.

Keep reading to discover all the titles Nintendo has announced so far for the Switch 2, or read about our hands-on experience with the Switch 2 and some of the games coming to the console.

Mario Kart World

First up and available bundled with the new console is Mario Kart World. The latest update to the Mario Kart universe introduces race tracks in various regions that span the globe with different atmospheres depending on the time of day and weather conditions.

Players can now venture further off track and drive “virtually everywhere” on the map, even driving themselves to the next track during Grand Prix races. Nintendo now allows for 24 players in each race and there’s a new Knockout Tour mode where players race to checkpoints within the map, getting eliminated if they arrive late.

There’s also a Free Roam mode that invites players to go for scenic drives alone or with friends and snap photos in different locations. Nintendo will reveal more about Mario Kart World in an upcoming Direct, but it has revealed that the game will launch the same day as the Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

Nintendo has also announced a new game designed to help players become more familiar with the Switch 2 console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour shrinks players down and places them on a virtual version of the console itself, inviting them to run around the device, learning more about its controls, upgrades and features.

Strangely, Nintendo has decided to make this a paid title so we’re not sure how many people will pick it up over the countless games the company has unveiled. However, it might be a good way to get your head around the new controls if you’re new to the platform or accustomed to the original Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games

Nintendo has also announced a wide range of ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ games. These are essentially existing Switch titles that have been upgraded to make use of the higher resolutions and increased frame rates available on the Switch 2, along with the new mouse controls and multiplayer features enabled by the GameChat feature and Nintendo Switch Camera accessory.

Major releases include Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Nintendo has also designed a GameCube-style Switch 2 controller to provide the full experience when diving into these retro games.

Will the Switch 2 play Switch games?

Yes, the Switch 2 is backward compatible, meaning you’ll be able to play physical and digital games released for the original Switch.

However, these titles won’t take advantage of the increased resolution, frame rates, new controls or multiplayer features unless they are Nintendo Switch 2 Edition versions.
