THE late Queen would be “truly horrified” by Prince Harry’s public savaging of the Royal family, palace sources said.

The Duke of Sussex has alienated himself even further from the family despite claiming to want reconciliation, according to the insiders.

Harry’s speculation about how long his father has left to live in light of his cancer diagnosis was particularly “poor taste”, the sources said.

Exasperated palace insiders told ITV News that Harry’s outburst shows there is “nothing that can be trusted to remain private”.

They also revealed his “beloved” grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, would have been “horrified” by the bitter attack, which has caused only more pain for all involved.

The official response from Buckingham Palace on Friday night was more measured, but behind closed doors its people are not holding back.

They told the channel that striking out in this way is “a very curious way to build bridges or offer olive branches”.

Similarly, palace insiders told The Sunday Telegraph that Harry lashing out at the King will only deepen the rift, and makes reconciliation less likely.

One source said: “If there were anxieties about things remaining private, then Friday will not have done them the power of good.”

They added that Harry has just “proven why, yet again” it is so difficult for the King to maintain a relationship with him.

Harry hit out at the royal family after losing his bid to have his taxpayer-funded security reinstated.

The Duke of Sussex brought the case against the Home Office and the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).

Obsessive Harry is stubborn & always thinks he’s right… security row shows Charles can’t trust him, royal expert says

In a sprawling bombshell interview with the BBC, the royal blamed his defeat on a “good old fashioned establishment stitch up” and said he feels “let down”.

Reeling from the loss, the prince chillingly suggested it would be the Firm’s fault if anything happened to him or wife Meghan Markle.

Harry went on to make a series of sensational accusations and revelations – including that King Charles refuses to speak to him “because of this security stuff”.

He ominously said he doesn’t know how long the King has left to live but that he wants to “reconcile” with him – and said he has “forgiven” his family.

Despite claiming to want to repair relations, he proceeded to blame his relatives for his security being axed following Megxit.

Harry also bizarrely claimed stripping him of his security was a plot to force him and Meghan Markle back to Britain.

Then, despite a widespread backlash, Harry doubled down with a bitter statement hours after the interview.

A royal expert explained to The Sun that “stubborn” Harry always thinks he’s right, and the recent tirade shows why Charles can’t trust him.

Ingrid Seward said the outcast prince “refuses to see any way except Harry’s way”.

She said: “The impression from that quite lengthy and revealing interview is that Harry is obsessive. He is very very stubborn – he doesn’t think he is wrong, he always thinks he is right.

“He does appear to be very fragile but he’s not prepared to say sorry.

“He’s not prepared to apologise because he doesn’t think he has any need to apologise, because he thinks he is right and everyone else is in the wrong.”

Harry’s most incendiary quotes

  • “He [my father] won’t speak to me because of this security stuff.”
  • “Some members of my family may never forgive me for writing a book.”
  • “I don’t know how long he [my father] has left.”
  • “There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family.”
  • “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and family back to the UK at this point.”
  • “I’ve been treated very very very differently to anyone else who exists, past or present, I’ve been singled out.”
  • “I never asked him [my father] to intervene – I asked him to step out of the way and let the experts do their jobs.”

Another insider close to Charles told The Sun that the King had hoped for a reunion with Harry – but that was dashed by his outburst.

Moments before the broadcast, sources close to the King had told of Charles’s “frustration” that Harry’s supporters suggested “his father doesn’t care about his (Harry’s) family”.

Insiders had also suggested a possible way forward between the pair depended on Harry’s reaction to the court loss.

Minutes later they got their answer as Harry again raged against the State, the Royal Household, his father, brother William and stepmother Camilla.

Speaking before the interview aired, the insider said: “But there is now a chance for his son to move forwards rather than dwell on past grievances.

“From his father’s perspective, the door has been shut by necessity while this painful issue played out through the proper judicial channels — but it has not been locked forever, nor the key thrown away.”

He today told the BBC: “There are decisions that were made, there are things that have happened since 2016 that I can now forgive. I’ve moved past that.

“I can forgive my family’s involvement, my father, my brother and my stepmother, I can forgive.

“I can forgive the press to a large extent as well, for so many things that have happened.

“What I’m struggling to forgive, and will probably always struggle to forgive, is that a decision that was made in 2020 that affects my every single day, and that is knowingly putting me and my family in harm’s way.

Prince Harry said he still wants reconciliation with his family

“Everybody knew that they were putting us at risk in 2020 and they hoped that me knowing that risk would force us to come back.”

Earlier this month, Harry returned to the UK for his two-day hearing at the Court of Appeal in London.

But Sir Geoffrey Vos, Lord Justice Bean and Lord Justice Edis ruled against him on Friday in a humiliating blow for the prince.

The loss – his second unsuccessful appeal against the decision – could be the final nail in the coffin for his security row, although Harry could still take his fight to the Supreme Court.

It also means he faces paying the legal costs for both sides, which is estimated to amount to more than £1.5million.
