United Nations He has decided open an office for AI governance in the Valencian Communityand the Government of Spain will contribute to its implementation with the approval of a voluntary contribution of three million of euros, destined for the Office of Digital and Emerging Technologies (UNODET) of the United Nations, the entity that will establish the aforementioned office and which aims to support global cooperation in governance of artificial intelligence.
The UNODET will therefore establish a division in Valencia dedicated to investigating in the elaboration of rules and policies of AI and risk classification. Also support the secretariat in different initiatives, coinciding with the monitoring of the global digital pact in the next two years. The division will be located at the headquarters of the United Nations Office for Projects (UNOPS) of Valencia.
With this contribution, the Government hopes to ensure that the model applied in Spain for AI, focused on responsible innovation, has international impact and scope. Also advance in its commitment to recovery and reconstruction in the community after the DANA, attracting this office to generate a more innovative and competitive ecosystem that facilitates economic change in the region.
In addition, the Government of Spain continues, with this contribution, reinforcing its international political action at AI, as promised to carry out the President of the Government in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly in 2023.
The initiative that entails the opening of this office will allow Advance the implementation of measures of the Global Digital Pactsuch as the future independent international scientific panel on AI, or the global dialogue on the governance of AI, considered key to the closure of the technological gap. The Global Digital Pact establishes common objectives and principles, in addition to concrete commitments and actions, to guide the development of an inclusive digital future.
