India is going with a tense and unpredictable situation due to the ongoing conflict with Pakistan. The tough situations are majorly affecting civilians living near border regions, making difficult for them to connect and communicate with their loved ones.  With rising military activity and infrastructure being targeted, mobile networks and power grids are often disrupted. Hence, in this article, we will cover how you can stay connected with your family and loved ones even when there is no mobile network. There could be situations of life and death, family may get separated, and help may be needed. In all these situations stay informed and connected is extremely essential. Fortunately, there are alternative ways to stay connected during these blackouts and emergencies.

Walkie-Talkies for Short-Range Communication:

Remember old times when we used to talk to our friends and siblings on walkie-talkies. Yes, they are one of the most reliable communication tools during network outages. Walkie-Talkies work on radio frequencies and don’t require a SIM card. Additionally, they don’t even need a data plan or even electricity once they are charged. If you want to coordinate with your family members in nearby shelters or want to keep in touch with your neighbors, walkie-talkies can provide clear and instant communication. However, they work across short distances, but they are easy to use and portable.

Offline Messaging Apps for Local Connectivity

There are several messaging apps that allow you to have an offline communication in India, especially in slightly more urban settings. These apps allow you to communicate without mobile data or wi-fi. Apps like Briar, Bridgefy, and more use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct to connect with nearby devices. Nevertheless, the range is limited to a few hundred meters, but they can still help families send text messages or updates when other method fails.

Emergency Radios and Satellite Devices:

If you want to have a longer-range communication or want to receive government broadcast, then an emergency radio can prove to be the best options. Satellite communication devices also exist, though they’re more expensive. They are largely used by rescue teams and travelers and also helps in transmitting distress messages when nothing else works.
