Months after Samsung first teased the Galaxy S25 Edge at the S25 launch in January, the phone is finally here. Here’s how it compares to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is Samsung’s top-of-the-line 2025 flagship smartphone, signalling a fresh design, excellent camera performance and plenty of power under the hood. The question is, how does it compare to the ultra-thin new Galaxy S25 Edge?

Keep reading to discover how the two S25 series smartphones compare when it comes to their designs, cameras, chipsets and battery lives, among other details.

Price

The Galaxy S25 Edge was announced on May 13 2025 and will be available to purchase from May 30. Prices start at £1099 for 256GB of storage or £1199 for the 512GB model.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra launched in January 2025, with prices starting at £1249 for the 256GB model, £1349 for the 512GB model and £1549 for the 1TB model.

However, all three of these versions have seen huge price cuts on the Samsung website and through third party retailers, bringing the prices more in line with those of the new Galaxy S25 Edge – at least while these offers last.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is thinner

When it comes to their respective designs, the Galaxy S25 Edge – as you may have guesses from its name – is significantly slimmer than the S25 Ultra.

The S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thin, while the S25 Ultra is 8.2mm thin. The Edge also has a slightly smaller screen and is more lightweight than the flagship model at 163g to the Ultra’s 218g. The dimensions and weight of the Edge make the phone even more perfect for slipping into your pocket.

Like the S25 Ultra, the S25 Edge has a strong but lightweight titanium body. It’s also the world’s first phone to feature Corning’s new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, though this doesn’t quite measure up to the Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Armour 2 protection.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra has a triple rear camera

When it comes to mobile photography, Galaxy phones are known for their bright, saturated images and we expect the Galaxy S25 Edge to be no different.

The S25 Edge features the same 200-megapixel main camera, 8K video recording and 12-megapixel front camera as the S25 Ultra. However, the Ultra does have the edge when it comes to ultra-wide and telephoto photography with its 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and dual 50-megapixel and 10-megapixel telephoto lenses. In comparison, the S25 Edge has just a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, meaning ultra-wide shots might not be as detailed and there’s no optical zoom on board for closing in on subjects in the distance.

That said, you’ll want to wait for our full review of the Galaxy S25 Edge to learn how the cameras in these two smartphones compare in real-world tests.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the same chipset

When it comes to performance, the Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the same chipset as the S25 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, along with the same 12GB of RAM. Again, you’ll have to wait for our full review to learn how these two phones compare in this regard.

What we do know is that the S25 Edge supports the same range of AI features available across the S25 series, including Generative Edit, Filters and the Audio Eraser.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra has a bigger battery

Last but not least, the Galaxy S25 Ultra carries a significantly larger battery than the S25 Edge, probably in part because of that additional thickness the Edge has shed.

The S25 Ultra packs a 3900 mAh battery, while the Ultra includes a 5000 mAh battery. However, you’ll need to wait for our full review to hear how these two battery capacities compare in terms of hours and how long each phone can go between charges.

Early verdict

The Galaxy S25 Edge is designed to deliver premium performance in a slimmer form than the S25 Ultra – and it certainly seems to achieve that on paper, with the phone carrying the same powerful chipset, 200MP camera and 8K video support.

The Edge does lack a few of the more high-end features found on the Ultra, including the larger battery and telephoto lens, but is it worth these sacrifices? Keep an eye out for our full review of the S25 Edge to hear our final verdict on how these two Galaxy phones compare.
