The next major Apple Vision Pro operating system update will enable users to scroll through apps using only their eyes.

That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who reckons Apple has nailed the tech necessary to offer a different option to hand gestures or rotating the digital crown to move through key apps.

The Vision Pro currently offers eye tracking support where can peer at a particular part of the display to highlight an app or object which can be selected with a pint gesture.

Now the company looks to have nailed the experience enough to allow eye tracking to do more of the heavy lifting in the visionOS 3. There’s no guarantee it’ll be part of the expected presentation in June at WWDC, but Apple is testing it out right now.

Gurman reports that Apple is “developing a feature for its Vision Pro headset that lets users scroll through software with their eyes, aiming to enhance the device with a novel interface.

“The eye-scrolling capability is being tested as part of visionOS 3, an upcoming version of the Vision Pro’s operating system, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Already, the headset lets users navigate the software by looking at objects and then selecting them by pinching their fingers.”

WWDC 2025 is likely to take place during the first week in June where Apple is expected to unveil iOS/iPad 19, watchOS 12, macOS 16 and more. Could visionOS 3 steal the show?

Opinion

Apple’s Vision Pro has struggled to gain traction in the year-or-so it’s been on sale, despite Apple’s best efforts to improve the value proposition with new features and more of the Immersive Video content that is the device’s standout wow feature.

The firm is believed to be working on more affordable alternatives, below the weighty £3,499 price tag, en route to an eventual pair of streamlined AR smart glasses. Hopefully, at WWDC, we’ll see some advancements that show us the path towards the device Apple reportedly and eventually sees as the successor to the iPhone.
