iPhone 17 Air battery size could reflect well on the S25 Edge

Apple’s iPhone 17 Air battery could be even smaller than the cell within the Galaxy S25 Edge, according to a new leak.

While we’re taking the leak with a pinch of salt for now, the leaker yeux1122 claimed on Naver that the iPhone 7 Air will have a 2,800mAh battery (via MacRumors).

That would be even smaller than the 3,900mAh battery within the rival slimline phone from Samsung officially revealed last week. The report does say Apple may use a high-density battery with an actual capacity 15-20% larger than that

While Samsung has claimed the phone will still have all-day battery life, there’ll be doubts until users and reviewers get the phone in hand. We’ve already had a look at how the Galaxy S25 Edge compare to the iPhone 17 Air and this could be a significant new comparison point.

Today’s report comes from “mass production confirmed sample” which also speaks of a 5.5mm thickness with a weight of just 145 grams.

That’d be lower than the 163g weight of the Galaxy S25 Edge, but Samsung’s phone would also be slightly thicker at 5.8mm. Again we’re taking this rumour lightly for now. We’ve only reported on rumours from the user yeux1122 a couple of times before.

On both occasions the rumour didn’t play out. In 2022 he claimed the iPhone 14 Pro would have 8GB of RAM, while it ended up with 6GB. Later that year, he claimed the iPhone SE 3 would arrive with MagSafe support. That didn’t come to fruition either.

While that doesn’t mean we’re dismissive of the claims, it’s not exactly a track record to place faith in.

Opinion

While this is far from confirmed, this report is not exactly encouraging is it?   Our concerns might be unfounded by the time the devices are tested to the max, but it seems like the compromises dealt out by phones that are, in some cases, less than 2mm thinner, might be too much to bear.
