They have just Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and rookie Will Howard on their roster.

Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign for the Steelers this week after months of talks.

The 41-year-old is seen as their priority for the QB spot.

However, there has been discussions that Tomlin will go for Kirk Cousins if he doesn’t join.

But there are major issues over that trade with the Atlanta Falcons coming off.

His large salary is a huge sticking point, with the 36-year-old owed £27.5 million in 2025.

And according to NFL insider James Palmer, that has made Rodgers the No1 target for the Steelers.

“If Rodgers doesn’t come, I think they would have some interest,” he said.

“They are not willing to pay a large chunk of that salary that Kirk Cousins is owed.

“Unless the Falcons are able to eat the majority of that money, I don’t think Kirk Cousins and the Steelers are a match.”

Cousins is seen as an emergency option for the Steelers.

They are confident Rodgers will sign this week ahead of the NFL campaign.

The Green Bay Packers legend sees them as a competitive playoff side.

But it has not been confirmed when his signing will officially be.

Rudolph is seen as the starting quarterback in the roster at present.

And if Rodgers doesn’t come, he would be their number one option, due to Cousins’ demands.

“I do think they are confident with Mason Rudolph,” added Palmer.

“They would prefer Aaron Rodgers.

“But they will be comfortable with Mason Rudolph being their quarterback.”

Rodgers is set to get underway with the Steelers in early to mid-June.

He has been taking a long break to spend time with family and friends.

This came after he was cut by the New York Jets earlier this year.
