Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 will drop support for three older iPhone models, which were compatible with iOS 18.

Instead of iOS 19, we actually got iOS 26 at WWDC 2025 and a whole new redesign to go with it. Apple has unified a lot of its design across various operating systems with a new Liquid Glass aesthetic that includes lots of transparency effects.

If you’re wondering whether your iPhone will get the update when it arrives later this year, see below for the full list of supported devices.

Which iPhones work with iOS 26?

Compatibility has shifted slightly this year, because while iOS 26 will be available for lots of iPhone models (you can see the list below), AI capabilities will only be available to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and all of the iPhone 16 models.

So, just because your phone works with iOS 26, it won’t be guaranteed to get all the features.

  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer)

iPhone models not supported by iOS 26

The following three phones that supported iOS 18 will not be able to run the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system when it arrives later this year.

  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR

The iPhone 11 series and possibly the iPhone SE (2020) may get their final major updates with this version, as they’re among the oldest models still supported; however this will not be confirmed until we see iOS 27 next year

Apple does continue to offer security updates for devices that are no longer supported by new versions of iOS. So while those users won’t have access to the latest and greatest features, there is still some level of protection.

The new iPhone 17 series – which is likely to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max – is will launch with iOS 26 when it arrives later this year. iOS 26 is available in developer beta now, with a public beta following in July and a full release scheduled for this fall.
