If you like to keep your Instagram profile as more of a personal photo album and less of a public bulletin board, Instagram’s upcoming feature is for you. Instagram will let users quietly post to your profile without broadcasting it to your followers, the company said on Thursday. Instagram also said it would let you rearrange your profile grid. It’s not clear how either feature will work yet.

Static posts and Reels have historically appeared in chronological order on Instagram, so this could open the door for users, creators and businesses to have the flexibility to rearrange their grid for other reasons, like sharing their favorite memories first. Instagram has a pinned feature that allows this, but reorganizing your photos could make it more personal.

The idea is to boost creativity without the need to chase followers and likes.

“We hope this added flexibility over how and where your content shows up helps you create and share without added pressure,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said in a statement.

Details were scarce. A representative for Instagram did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
