Broadcom has been working on a new Linux Ethernet networking driver dubbed “BNGE” for supporting their new high-end BCM5770X chipset family.

The Broadcom BCM5770X hardware supports 50 / 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 Gb/s link speeds and will be supported by this open-source BNGE “bng_en” kernel driver that is working its way to the mainline kernel.

The initial Broadcom BNGE Linux driver comes in at around 4.1k lines of code for providing the basic features. Support for link management and various other features will come in follow-up patch series once this initial BNGE Ethernet driver is ready for upstreaming.
