Apple’s flagship smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10 is just as impressive as older models, only now with a more refined design and audio playback capability. The fast and efficient S10 chip that powers it can do just about everything you’d want: record workouts and daily steps, measure health metrics like ECG and sleep, answer calls and texts, stream music and podcasts, access apps, set alarms, and more. Plus, the new depth gauge and water temperature sensors also make it an excellent choice for snorkeling and other shallow-water activities. It earned both our Editors’ Choice and Best of the Year Awards in 2024 – if you’re an iPhone user, you won’t find better than this, and right now you can save $70!

The latest Apple Watch SE that we reviewed hits the sweet spot in terms of balancing performance with price thanks to this $60 discount. It’s marketed as the “budget-friendly” model in the Apple Watch line-up, but still boasts many of the same core features, including fall detection, irregular heart rate and rhythm notifications, and pretty much the same access to apps and connectivity features. Basically, if you can forgo an always-on display and some of the more specialized health metrics, like body temperature and ECG, then the Apple Watch SE offers the most bang for your buck, especially on sale.

You can also grab this Apple Watch SE at Walmart for $189.

FAQ

FAQ

Hi, I’m Andrew Gebhart, PCMag’s senior analyst covering wearables, and I’m here to help answer the most common questions about finding a good deal on smartwatches and fitness trackers. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

Which Smartwatch Is the Best and Most Affordable?

Our choice for the best affordable Android smartwatch is the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE. It earned an Editors’ Choice award in our review because it does just about everything you’d expect from wearables that cost hundreds of dollars more. It has exceptional biometric features including heart rate and sleep tracking and exercise monitoring, plus a robust app selection. This is a jack-of-all-trades smartwatch that you can usually snag for around $150.

Which Is the Cheapest Smartwatch Brand?

Most of the major smartwatch manufacturers have at least one budget model in their lineup — Apple, for instance, offers the Watch SE as a lower-cost alternative to Series and Ultra models. Overall, the company with the lowest prices across the board is Google, with both its Google Watch and Fitbit-branded wearables reliably coming in under $200. Additional sales can bring those prices down even further, but for a reliable smartwatch from a trusted brand, Google is the way to go.

What’s the Best Budget Smartwatch for Kids With GPS?

If you’re looking to keep tabs on kids and teens, a smartwatch with GPS functionality is a great choice. Google’s Fitbit Ace LTE is an Android-powered wearable that packs all the tools you’d expect like phone-free calling and texting capabilities plus customizable avatars and exclusive games kids find fun.

Which Smartwatch Is the Best and Most Affordable for the Elderly?

Different generations have their own relationships with technology, and if you’re shopping for a smartwatch for an older relative, you’ll want something that’s easy to use, has a bright, big screen, and features tools that help them navigate their lives safely. Our top pick is the Medical Guardian MGMove watch, which combines a medical alert bracelet with a suite of useful apps, including step tracking, caregiver connection, and a physical SOS button in case of emergencies. It does require a monthly subscription, but the price is reasonable.

What Is the Most Accurate Fitness Tracker?

Every entry on our list of the best smartwatches and fitness trackers earned high marks for accuracy. For a simple, wrist-based tracker, the Fitbit Charge 6 is a reliable choice for measuring heart rate and other workout metrics. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 provides responsive, accurate readings for those with a premium budget, but there are plenty of suitable, less expensive options. Wrist-based trackers have done well to catch up to chest straps in recent years, but if you really want pinpoint heart rate accuracy, consider an option that you wear on your chest for more optimal reading placement.

What Is the Best Smartwatch Under $200?

The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE has most of the features you’d expect from a premium smartwatch, at a price starting just under $200. On sale, you can often find it for even less.

Is There a Monthly Charge For a Smartwatch?

If you want LTE on your smartwatch so that it’s not dependent on your phone to make calls and send texts, then yes, you will have a monthly charge for the service. The exact price will depend on your plan and the carrier, but expect to pay between $5 and $10 a month. On the other hand, most smartwatches are offered in Bluetooth-only variants. Your phone needs to be nearby for these watches to stay connected, but you don’t need to pay any monthly fee for this level of connectivity or for any of the other watch functions.

Can I Use a Smartwatch Without a Plan?

Most smartwatches have Bluetooth-only variants that don’t require being connected to your mobile data plan. They simply need a nearby synced phone to collect and update data. If you want an LTE-enabled watch to stay connected independent of a phone, then yes, you will need a data plan to enable that feature.

Do Smartwatches Need a Phone Number?

Your smartwatch will not have its own phone number, even if you have an LTE-enabled model. Instead, to be smart, your watch will need to sync to your smartphone. Bluetooth-only watches will get all of their data from the phone. LTE-watches can sync and receive data separately, but calls and texts to and from you still come from the same number as your phone.
