The recent deployment of update 4.9.7, launched by Free on June 23, 2025, is not only a simple improvement: it could be the life buoy of your network!

Update 4.9.7: A wind of stability

This update carries in it a real improvement for the stability of Wi-Fi. Indeed, it directly targets the problems linked to the simultaneous connection of several devices, which had become a real headache for many. With the explosion of the use of connected objects and teleworking, these untimely cuts or connection losses only waged the daily life of users.

In detail, the update aims to improve traffic management and optimize the quality of Wi-Fi signals in very requested environments, such as households with several online devices. An expected answer, and praised by subscribers, which allows the Freebox to better manage the density of connections without sacrificing the speed.

What freebox is impacted by this update?

The Freebox Pop, Ultra, Revolution and Delta are now enjoying more stable Wi-Fi thanks to this version 4.9.7. In addition, Free has not forgotten its Wi-Fi 7 repeaters. These devices, which aim to extend the Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house, benefit from a full update (version 2.6.2) which improves multi-link operation management (MLO). This process allows several Wi-Fi channels to work simultaneously, which is a guarantee of stability and increased speed for households with high bandwidth needs.

How to apply the update?

To take advantage of this long -awaited update, there is no complex manipulation. Free opted for a simple and quick solution: just restart your Freebox Server. This operation will automatically launch the installation of version 4.9.7. For the most technophobic, this task can be performed via the Freebox Connect application, in the “Freebox Server” tab. Just click on “restart”, and voila.

Real profits

In addition to the correction of network cuts linked to overload, it also optimizes frequency management and improves the balance between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This makes it possible to obtain a more fluid connection, even in the most saturated areas. In practice, subscribers should observe a significant decrease in speed reductions, connection interruptions and problems linked to the saturation of the network.

In addition, the improvements made to Wi-Fi 7 repeat allow the loss of signal to be extended, even in spaces more distant from the Freebox Server. A real asset for those who have a large apartment or a house of several floors.
