Update 6/25/2025: Eight days later, version 36.10.1 on the App Store restores iOS 26 support.

Fortnite returned to the U.S. App Store last month after a five year hiatus over litigation between Epic Games and Apple. As of today, however, Fortnite is as good as gone on iPhones and iPads running the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 beta.

Epic Games released a new version of Fortnite for iOS today that includes an all-new mobile-targeted version of the game called Blitz Royale. Unfortunately, Fortnite also crashes instantly on iOS 26 beta.

Gamers have flagged the issue on social media all day, noting that it’s unclear if the behavior is a bug or intentional. The Fortnite Status account on X doesn’t appear to have acknowledged the issue.

App incompatibility is expected with OS beta versions, although usually problems start with existing versions of apps upon updating to the new OS. In this case, the app ran fine on the OS, but an updated version of the app broke compatibility.

Prior to the app update, Fortnite worked on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.

Hopefully Epic Games didn’t intentionally disable support for iOS 26 and the issue can be resolved soon. For now, the only option is to either downgrade from iOS 26 to iOS 18 or wait for an update to the Fortnite app.

Fortnite requires the latest version of the app to be installed since every player needs to access the same version of the online multiplayer game.

In the meantime, here’s more about the new phone-friendly Blitz Royale game addition:

Blitz Royale is a 32-player Battle Royale mode with new gameplay every match and frequent updates. The best part? Victory can be yours in five minutes or less — perfect for playing on your phone!

All opponents start with the same random Medallion or unique weapon on a small map. This means everyone has the same advantage! Increase your Blitz Level by eliminating opponents and surviving Storm circles. As you level up, get powerful weapons and power-ups. Loot Golden Chests for even more power-ups and Golden Supply Drops for even more Medallions 🥇

All the power-ups in Fortnite Blitz Royale, called “Boons.”

Hit the blitz solo or in a squad of four. Blitz Royale will be available until July 15, and may return at a later date with refreshed gameplay, maps, and rewards.

Fortnite is available for iPhone and iPad in the U.S. App Store … as long as you have 4GB RAM and iOS 18, that is, for now.
