Last month Canonical announced plans for releasing monthly Ubuntu Linux development snapshots and was followed by the Questing Snapshot 1 release in the road toward Ubuntu 25.10. Out today is the Questing Snapshot 2 release for incorporating the latest Ubuntu 25.10 development changes.
As noted in May, these monthly Ubuntu Linux snapshots are for helping to build out Canonical’s release automation around Ubuntu. Ubuntu for many years has provided daily Ubuntu ISO builds and made it easy for those wanting to ride the latest Ubuntu Linux development stream. Now there are these monthly snapshots for those desiring new images on a monthly testing cadence.
Utkarsh Gupta of Canonical announced the Questing Snapshot 2 a short time ago:
“We’d like to remind you that these aren’t production ready and should be seen as “throwaway artifacts” for now.
The next snapshot is planned for 31st July so if you’d like to see your changes in the snapshot 3 images, please have them in the archive by 28th July, which is when we’ll start preparing the RCs for snapshot 3.”
Ubuntu 25.10 is working toward its October release with updated RISC-V hardware requirements, Ubuntu Server changes, dropping support for GNOME on X.Org, using the GNOME 49 desktop, making use of the GCC 15 system compiler, and many other package updates and changes ahead of next year’s Ubuntu 26.04 LTS cycle.
