The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has spent the last couple of years issuing refunds to Fortnite players who were tricked by deceptive in-app purchases between 2017 and 2022. The latest wave of payments totals $126 million, and you still have a chance to cash in.

The FTC has reopened the claims process, so if you think you are owed money, you have until July 9, 2025, to submit a claim on the FTC’s website.

Epic Games agreed to pay up to $245 million after the FTC found in 2023 that the company used what it called “deceptive practices” to trick players into making purchases. So far, the brand has paid $198 million in refunds. The first wave, issued in late 2024, saw almost 630,000 payments. Nearly 970,000 people submitted claims for the most recent wave; checks and PayPal payments for that are going out now. Make sure you cash the checks within 90 days or transfer the PayPal funds within 30 days.

In 2023, the FTC notified 37 million people that they may be eligible for this compensation. To be eligible for the refund, you need to be based in the United States and have played Fortnite between January 2017 and September 2022. On top of that, you need to have at least one of the following statements be true about your time with the game:

  • You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022.

  • Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.

  • Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges.

You must be over 18 to complete a claim; a parent or guardian can do it on a child’s behalf. (You can file your own claim if you’re over 18 now but were a minor between 2017 and 2022.)

How much you get paid will depend on how many people submit claims by July 9. The next round of payments isn’t expected to go out until 2026, however. The FTC says it will post updates on its website.
