This weekend, F1: The Movie is making a big splash in its opening weekend at the box office at movie theaters around the world. The Apple Original Film is being distributed by Warner Bros. for its theatrical run. But as an Apple production, it will end up streaming on Apple TV+. Here’s the expected streaming release date.

Apple has not officially announced further release plans yet, as the company is obviously currently focused on making the cinema run as successful as possible. The logic goes that a bigger box office hit will land even larger when it does eventually hit streaming. At the same time, the revenue from ticket sales helps offset some of the monstrous budget. Estimates for the cost of the F1 movie range from $200-$300m.

However, we can look at previous rollouts to get a good idea of the release date for streaming the movie at home. Studios generally stick to consistent release window periods for all their big releases.

F1: The Movie premiered in theaters in the United States on June 27. After about 45 days, the film will hit its PVOD window; premium video on demand. This means it will be available to buy or rent on digital stores, including Apple TV Store but also places like Amazon Prime and others. This window is timed to land at about when the film’s ticket sales have dried up, as most films make more than 80% of their box office revenue within their first four weeks of availability.

PVOD gives another chance for Apple and Warner Bros. to collect some money on the film. The movie will be priced at typical premium rental prices of about $25.

After another one to two months of PVOD exclusivity, F1: The Movie will then stream on Apple TV+. This means people waiting to watch it home at no extra charge will likely be waiting until October 2025 to stream it.

The exact release date depends ultimately on Apple, who will watch its performance in the theatrical and box office windows and adjust accordingly. So far, the film’s box office performance is looking very strong. It is expected to rake in about $140 million in its opening weekend, and will easily outstrip all previous Apple films that were given wide theatrical runs.
