Steam Survey issues prevented the survey results from being posted on the evening of the 1st as is traditionally done, but the results were just uploaded now to the Steam website. Steam on Linux usage dipped slightly but overall remains healthy with much excitement still around the Steam Deck and SteamOS efforts.
In May the Steam on Linux use hit a recent high of 2.69% and in absolute terms was likely the largest overall Linux user-base ever on Steam. But the June numbers are now available and point to a small dip in the Linux marketshare on a relative basis.
The June results put Steam on Linux at a 2.57% marketshare, which is a 0.12% decline month over month. On a year over year basis it’s a decent improvement compared to 2.08% last June.
SteamOS Holo continues commanding around a third of the Linux gamers with SteamOS so far most notably being found on the Steam Deck and increasingly other handhelds.
AMD CPU use among Linux gamers hit 69.0% for June. This is with Steam Deck being powered by a custom AMD APU and AMD hardware being popular with Linux gamers/enthusiasts for being very open-source friendly. Meanwhile when looking at the Windows-only Steam Survey numbers, Intel is at 60% to AMD at 39% CPU marketshare.
AMD GPU use also continues to dominate among Linux gamers.
