15below, a Brighton-based firm specialising in automated passenger communications for the airline industry has acquired Airport AI as it looks to build a “unified communications solution” for air travel.

Founded in 2016, Airport AI is a conversational customer service platform used in more than 85 airports globally, including London Gatwick.

The company has been acquired by 15below, used by airlines to communicate to passengers, as it works towards an automated customer service product that links the entire aviation industry.

According to 15below, the combined product will provide airports with greater visibility of passengers within their terminals, while airlines partners will have access to the AI-powered conversational platform.

“We really admire Airport AI’s unique technology and their vision for transforming passenger communications, which aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering a seamless travel experience,” says Nicholas Key, chief executive of 15below.

“We are now in a unique position to drive smarter, more connected journeys for passengers while helping airlines and airports work more efficiently together. We know how much potential this has to benefit the whole aviation industry, and we’re excited to lead this next chapter of intelligent, personalised travel.”

The acquisition is part of 15below’s five-year growth strategy, backed by an investment secured last year from Lloyds-owned private equity group LDC.

“Our partnership with 15below marks a major milestone, not just for Airport AI, but for the entire aviation ecosystem,” said Airport AI chief executive Pierre Cuquemelle.

“For too long, airports and airlines have operated in silos when it comes to engaging with passengers.

“By combining our expertise in AI-driven passenger communication with 15below’s deep integration across airline systems, we are building the foundation for a future where airports and airlines collaborate seamlessly to deliver smarter services, improve operational efficiency, and make travel less stressful for millions of people around the world.”
