In the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry, transitioning mission-critical systems to cloud platforms requires exceptional planning, stakeholder management, and strategic foresight. A leading drug pricing intelligence product company decided to transition its platform to the Informatica Cloud – prompting a mandatory migration for all associated vendors.

Anticipating this shift early from his client, Gopalakrishnan Mahadevan was able to identify the project’s inclusion in the client’s 2024 roadmap and strategically guided his delivery team to proactively onboard techno-functional SMEs with prior experience on similar initiatives—including resources who had previously worked with the client to strengthen his company’s positioning to win/support this project for his client.

This strategic preparation became the decisive differentiator in winning the engagement. Gopalakrishnan’s compelling proposal showcased a powerful combination of deep domain expertise, industry-leading practices, and a robust implementation framework. The team further distinguished itself by leveraging proprietary accelerators—sophisticated tools and templates developed in-house—establishing a clear advantage against larger competitors.

Despite stiff competition from major vendors, Gopalakrishnan’s strategic planning, proactive engagement, defense presentation, and competitive pricing helped win this high-visibility, business-critical project. Beyond the initial success, the continued contribution through strong project management and governance helped deepen the client relationship and expand the team’s footprint across additional business areas.

Gopalakrishnan spearheaded a mission-critical project to migrate the Commercial Finance Group’s pricing calculation platform to the cloud—directly supporting high-value product launches and revenue planning cycles.

He designed and presented a winning proposal showcasing delivery capability through a robust multi-vendor governance model and a phased implementation roadmap with zero downtime transition. Gopalakrishnan partnered with business and IT stakeholders to assess dependencies tied to product release schedules, ensuring business continuity for over $1B+ in annual pricing transactions.

Gopalakrishnan assembled and led a cross-functional delivery team with niche experience in pharma pricing systems, regulatory pricing compliance (e.g., government pricing, 340B, Medicaid), and prior client engagement history. He oversaw executive-level program governance, aligning delivery with product go-to-market timelines, finance controls, and compliance checkpoints through weekly steering committee sessions with Commercial Finance, Regulatory Affairs, and IT sponsors.

The project was successfully delivered on schedule and within budget, completing the cloud migration prior to a scheduled product upgrade. This avoided disruption to pricing operations, ensured data integrity, and strengthened compliance with global cloud infrastructure and audit requirements.

The successful migration not only ensured operational excellence but also enhanced the client’s global cloud infrastructure and audit compliance. It established a model for large system migrations in highly regulated pharmaceutical environments, demonstrating how critical financial systems could be modernized while maintaining operational integrity.

The impact of this initiative extended well beyond successful operations. The project was completed on schedule and within budget, successfully migrating business-critical price calculations to the cloud before a scheduled product upgrade. This strategic timing prevented potential disruptions to pricing operations that could have affected key business functions.

Beyond the initial success, the continued contribution through strong project management and governance helped deepen the client relationship and expand the team’s footprint across additional business areas, creating lasting value for both the client and organization.

The project established a new benchmark for cloud migration implementation where business continuity is paramount. Successfully transitioning pricing systems that handle more than $1B in annual transactions with compliance and data integrity intact demonstrated that even the most sensitive business systems can be modernized effectively under proper strategic guidance.
