Running out of battery on your AirPods right when you’re stepping out the door? I think we all have there. But with iOS 26, Apple is finally fixing that annoying surprise. According to a report by 9to5Mac, your iPhone will soon be able to send you smarter reminders about your AirPods’ battery, even when they’re still in the case and not in your ears.
Until now, iPhones would usually notify you about the AirPods battery only when you were actively using them. That means if your AirPods were sitting in the case, getting closer to 0%, you wouldn’t know until it was too late. With iOS 26, that changes.
iOS 26 Brings Battery Notifications
So even if you haven’t touched your AirPods in a while, your iPhone can now pop up an alert saying the case or buds are running low. This helps avoid those last-minute disappointments, especially when you’re heading out and need them the most.
As per the 9to5Mac report, when you plug your iPhone in at night, and immediately get a helpful reminder to charge your AirPods too. Whether that was a coincidence or part of a smarter detection system, it felt like perfect timing. Not only that, your iPhone can now also let you know when your AirPods are done charging. So if you’ve plugged them in and walked away, you’ll get a heads-up when they’re ready to go again.
Want To Turn It Off? Here’s How
If these extra alerts sound like too much for you, don’t worry, you’ll be able to turn them off. Just follow these steps:
- First of all, go to the Settings option
- Choose AirPods
- And then select Battery.
- Here, you will find Charging Notifications, and toggle them off as per your preference.
It must be noted that iOS 26 is currently available in developer beta, and Apple is expected to roll out the public beta later this month. The full version of the update will land as a free software update later this year for everyone. Keep an eye out for iOS 26, and never get caught with dead earbuds again.
