As a computer monitor expert who has reviewed many Samsung displays over the years, I know the ins and outs of these typically excellent but often pricey panels. So I always check for deals on Samsung monitors on Prime Day, and this year is no exception. This one has stood out for the full four days: the highly rated Odyssey Neo G9, an audacious 57-inch gaming display that the company calls the first “Dual UHD” (DUHD) monitor.

To be sure, it’s huge and wide: Its 7,680-by-2,160-pixel resolution is the equivalent of two side-by-side 32-inch 4K panels. This gives it a 32:9 aspect ratio. (Sometimes that’s called “super-ultrawide.”) Coupled with a tight 1000R curvature, that provides for an immersive experience and makes the Neo an especially good choice for flight sims and racing games.

The Neo G9 is a VA rather than an OLED panel, which keeps the price down while still providing a better contrast ratio than standard IPS panels and most IPS Black ones. (When we reviewed the Neo G9, we tested its contrast ratio at just short of 3,000:1, which is outstanding.) It uses quantum matrix technology with quantum mini LEDs, which, according to Samsung, creates controlled brightness and improved contrast, thanks to 2,392 local dimming zones combined with 12-bit black levels.

As for its gaming chops, the G9 has a 240Hz refresh rate when paired with a GPU that supports DisplayPort 2.1 output; otherwise, you’ll be limited to 120Hz. The G9 supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, the highest tier of AMD’s technology that eliminates screen tearing and stuttering by providing a variable refresh rate if you have a compatible graphics card. Plus, in our testing, it showed an excellent sub-1-millisecond input-lag measure.

Before you pull the trigger, be sure you have space to fit the Neo G9. The cabinet is 53 inches wide, and the overall unit weighs a hefty 41 pounds. Also, know that you’ll need a rig with a powerful CPU and GPU to get the most out of it, and its very high dual-4K native resolution will make it a challenge to keep gaming frame rates high. But if a beautiful, immersive gaming experience appeals to you, now’s your chance to get the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 at a substantially reduced price.
